The ODK-Series (Optimised Dall-Kirkhams) boasts an f/6.8 focal ratio, ideal for exceptional deep-sky photo-visual use while retaining ample focal length for high-resolution planetary work, whether for visual or CCD applications.

Crafted from a Carbon Fibre sandwich design, the tube is exceptionally robust to prevent flexing and maintains zero expansion, ensuring consistent focal plane stability during lengthy photographic exposures. Its open tube design and short length contribute to remarkably fast cool-down times.

To aid in cooling the telescope efficiently, each model comes equipped with three fans positioned behind the primary mirror.

Precise focusing across the ODK range is facilitated by the ACU-3S 3”-Crayford Focuser, featuring a 10:1 reduction drive.

The primary mirror is crafted from Schott Borosilicate Low Expansion Suprax glass, produced to exacting standards to achieve an F/4 paraboloid configuration with a surface accuracy of 1/6 wave or better. Utilizing the Zygo Laser Interferometer, one of the world's most precise measuring devices, ensures top-tier optical quality.

The primary mirror is Hilux coated to provide the highest possible aluminum-protected reflective surfaces.

Tube Rings: Orion Optics UK manufactures aluminum tube rings on their CNC milling machines, offering maximum security and precision. These rings, machined from solid aluminum and later black anodized for protection, are felt-lined to provide a secure yet gentle grip on the polished tubes. Pressure adjustment is made possible by large knurled knobs on each tube ring, allowing precise friction control on the tube outer surface.

ACU-3S: Supported by the precision 3” focuser of the ACU-3S, the ODK series boasts a short draw tube length. With a threaded top to accommodate various accessories, adaptors, and spacing components, this focuser features ultra-accurate 10:1 slow-motion control and enables wide fields to be achieved without vignetting. The focuser's connection to the telescope via a machined female dovetail allows for 360-degree rotation, facilitating easy setup to meet your specific needs.
