Astronomik Filters 1.25" 12nm H-alpha CCD filter

Tailored for CCD photography, the Astronomik H-alpha 12nm filter is engineered to allow the H-alpha light of emission nebulae to pass while effectively blocking the remainder of the spectrum that may affect CCD sensitivity.

Description

Astronomik H-alpha 12nm Filter

Tailored for CCD photography, the Astronomik H-alpha 12nm filter is engineered to allow the H-alpha light of emission nebulae to pass while effectively blocking the remainder of the spectrum that may affect CCD sensitivity.

Since the end of 2008, we have revamped all our photographic filters, now shipping our new "Halo-Free" filters.

With a Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) of 12nm, this filter is optimized for common CCD cameras and supports the use of fast optics, boasting transmission rates of up to 99%.

One notable advantage of the 12nm filter is its ability to provide guiding stars for cameras equipped with built-in autoguiders (e.g., SBIG). This is particularly beneficial compared to stronger filters like our 6nm version, where finding a usable guidestar can be challenging.

The Astronomik H-alpha-CCD (12nm version) significantly enhances contrast between objects, particularly between the H-alpha emission line and skyglow background. It effectively suppresses emission lines from artificial lighting (such as mercury and sodium) and skyglow.

Unlike purely visual filters, photographic CCD filters feature built-in IR-blocking, mitigating optical issues caused by infrared radiation.
