Description

Astronomik H-alpha 12nm Filter

The Astronomik H-alpha filter, a narrowband filter crafted for CCD photography, selectively allows the H-alpha light emitted by nebulae to pass while blocking almost the entire spectrum to which CCDs are sensitive.

Since the close of 2008, we've revamped our entire line of photographic filters, now introducing our innovative "Halo-Free" filters.

With a full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 12nm, this filter is optimized for use with standard CCD cameras, enabling the utilization of very fast optics. It's essential to highlight that the filter boasts a transmission rate of up to 99%.

An additional benefit of the 12nm filters lies in the availability of guiding stars for cameras equipped with built-in autoguiders (such as SBIG). Unlike very strong filters like our 6nm variant, which often struggle to find usable guide stars.

The filter's application range extends from 1:2.8 to 1:15. Transmission losses and chromatic distortions, typical with other filters, are only noticeable with Astronomik filters when extremely bright aperture ratios of 1:2 and higher are utilized.

Main Use:

The Astronomik H-alpha-CCD (12nm version) significantly enhances contrast between objects, particularly between the H-alpha emission line and the skyglow background. Moreover, our Astronomik H-alpha-CCD (12nm version) effectively suppresses emission lines from artificial lighting sources such as mercury (Hg) and sodium (Na), as well as skyglow.

Unlike purely visual filters, photographic CCD filters include built-in IR-blocking to prevent optical issues caused by infrared radiation.

Please note: While all camera lenses can theoretically be used with the Clip-Filter, including Canon EF lenses or those from third-party manufacturers like Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Walimex, etc., clip-filters are not compatible with Canon EF-S lenses.
