Description

Photographic CCD filters come equipped with built-in IR-blocking, ensuring the mitigation of optical issues arising from infrared radiation.

For your selection guidance:

To commence, we recommend the Astronomik CLS filter. This filter effectively suppresses both artificial light pollution and natural airglow, providing a dark-sky background. With extended exposure times enabled by this filter, fainter objects become visible. Notably, the standard CLS filter lacks built-in IR-blocking, necessitating the use of the CLS-CCD filter for astro-modified cameras.

In areas with substantial light pollution, the Astronomik UHC filter proves advantageous. This filter selectively permits the transmission of light from H-beta, OIII, H-alpha, and SII lines, offering significantly stronger background suppression compared to the CLS. However, it primarily caters to gas nebulae, filtering out star clusters and galaxies.

For those seeking a deeper dive into astrophotography, we recommend the OIII, H-alpha, and SII emission line filters, available with a full width at half maximum of either 6nm or 12nm. These filters enable the capture of detailed images of faint objects, even in locations with extreme light pollution and under a full Moon. It's important to note that images captured through these narrow emission lines may not exhibit natural colors.

Owners of astro-modified cameras may find the Astronomik OWB filter beneficial. Designed for "original white balance," this filter corrects color reproduction discrepancies in converted cameras, allowing seamless transition to everyday photography without the need for subsequent computer adjustments.
