These filters are excellent for capturing detailed views of the moon and planets, particularly Mars, when used with telescopes of 6" (150mm) aperture or larger.

The ProPlanet IR 742 selectively permits only infrared light with wavelengths greater than 742 nm to pass through. By operating in this wavelength range, the impact of atmospheric turbulence (seeing) is notably reduced compared to the visible spectrum discernible to the human eye. This results in considerably sharper images, surpassing the typical quality achievable with your equipment and observing site. Additionally, the filter enables planetary and lunar photography even during advanced daylight hours due to its ability to darken the sky background.

Primary Application

The Astronomik ProPlanet IR 742 effectively blocks the visible portion of the spectrum while allowing light with wavelengths longer than 742nm to pass. This selective filtration minimizes the adverse effects of atmospheric turbulence, significantly enhancing planetary and lunar imaging. Images captured in this infrared range exhibit greater stability compared to those taken in visible light, with nearly identical exposure durations.
