Introducing the Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-Pass Filter

These filters are tailor-made for capturing the moon and planets, particularly Mars, using telescopes with apertures of 6" (150mm) or larger.

The ProPlanet IR 742 selectively permits infrared light with wavelengths exceeding 742 nm. Operating within this wavelength range notably reduces atmospheric turbulence (seeing) compared to the visible spectrum, resulting in sharper images beyond the usual capabilities of your equipment and observing location. Furthermore, the filter's ability to darken the sky background at dawn facilitates planetary and lunar photography even in daylight.

Primary Use

The Astronomik ProPlanet IR 742 blocks the visible spectrum and exclusively allows light with wavelengths longer than 742nm to pass through. By doing so, it effectively filters out the portion of the spectrum most susceptible to atmospheric turbulence, significantly enhancing planetary and lunar imaging. The resulting images exhibit greater stability compared to those captured in visible light, with nearly identical exposure durations.
