The Astronomik UHC filter is tailored for visual observation.

Utilizing your Astronomik UHC filter promises enhanced star visibility and finer details in deep-sky objects compared to filters from other manufacturers.

The Astronomik UHC (Ultra High Contrast) filter facilitates the transmission of nearly 100% of radiation from both O-III and the H beta lines. While the second window for the H-alpha line isn't intended for visual observation, it's crucial for electronic device usage. This filter effectively filters out annoying scattered light from other wavelength sources, including local artificial light pollution, revealing a wealth of detail in gas nebulae and planetary nebulae against a darkened sky background.

Primary Use:

The remarkable light transmission of Astronomik UHC filters brings superior views of deep-sky objects, even through small telescopes! The high transmission of optical glass filters ensures ample light for successful visual observations, beginning with telescopes as small as 2" (50mm) aperture. These filters are optimized for use with telescope focal lengths ranging from f/4 to f/15. Transmission losses and chromatic distortions, common with other filters, are observed only with Astronomik filters under extremely bright aperture ratios of 1:2 and higher. Another notable advantage of our Astronomik UHC filter is the exceptional optical quality of the filter glass, ensuring sharp star images akin to those seen with your astronomical instrument without any filter!

Guidance for Your Selection:

For beginners, we recommend starting with the Astronomik CLS filter. This filter effectively suppresses artificial light pollution and natural airglow, providing a dark-sky background and enabling longer exposure times to reveal fainter objects. The filter is optimized to reproduce objects in their natural colors. Note: The basic CLS filter lacks built-in IR-blocking, so opt for the CLS-CCD filter for astro-modified cameras!

For heavily light-polluted areas, the Astronomik UHC filter is an excellent choice. Its transmission curve selectively allows light from H-beta, OIII, H-alpha, and SII lines, providing superior background suppression compared to CLS. However, this filter primarily enhances the visibility of gas nebulae, filtering out star clusters and galaxies to a large extent.

For a more in-depth dive into astrophotography, consider the OIII, H-alpha, and SII emission line filters, available with a full width at half maximum of 6nm or 12nm. These filters enable detailed imaging of faint objects, even in locations with extreme light pollution or under a full Moon. Images captured in these narrow emission lines may not display natural colors.

For owners of astro-modified cameras, we offer the Astronomik OWB filter, designed to correct the altered color reproduction of converted cameras, allowing for normal everyday photography without extensive post-processing adjustments.
