Description

The Astronomik UHC filter is designed specifically for visual observation.

You'll find great satisfaction in using your Astronomik UHC filter as it enhances the visibility of stars and details in deep-sky objects far more than filters from other manufacturers.

The Astronomik UHC (Ultra High Contrast) filter efficiently transmits nearly 100% of the radiation from both O-III and H beta lines. While the second window for the H-alpha line isn't intended for visual observation, it's essential if the filter is used with an electronic device. It effectively filters out distracting scattered light from various wavelength sources, including local artificial light pollution, resulting in a significant enhancement of detail in gas nebulae and planetary nebulae against a darkened sky background.

Primary Use:

Astronomik UHC filters offer exceptional light transmission, improving the view of deep-sky objects, even through small telescopes! The high transmission of these optical glass filters ensures adequate light for successful visual observations, starting from telescopes with a 2" (50mm) aperture. These filters are optimized for use with telescope focal lengths ranging from f/4 to f/15. Unlike other filters, Astronomik filters exhibit transmission losses and chromatic distortions only under extremely bright aperture ratios of 1:2 and higher. Another significant advantage of the Astronomik UHC filter is the high optical quality of the filter glass, delivering sharp star images similar to those seen with your astronomical instrument without any filter!

Guidance for Your Selection:

As an initial choice, we recommend the Astronomik CLS filter. This filter effectively suppresses artificial light pollution and natural airglow, providing a dark-sky background and allowing for longer exposure times to reveal fainter objects. The filter is optimized to reproduce objects in their natural colors. Note: The basic CLS filter lacks built-in IR-blocking, so opt for the CLS-CCD filter for astro-modified cameras!

For locations with heavy light pollution, the Astronomik UHC filter is an excellent option. Its transmission curve selectively allows light from the H-beta, OIII, H-alpha, and SII lines, providing superior background suppression compared to CLS. However, note that this filter primarily enhances the visibility of gas nebulae, filtering out star clusters and galaxies to a large extent.

For a deeper dive into astrophotography, consider the OIII, H-alpha, and SII emission line filters, available with a full width at half maximum of 6nm or 12nm. These filters enable detailed imaging of faint objects, even in locations with extreme light pollution or under a full Moon. Images captured in these narrow emission lines may not display natural colors.

For owners of astro-modified cameras, we offer the Astronomik OWB filter, designed to correct the altered color reproduction of converted cameras, allowing for normal everyday photography without extensive post-processing adjustments.
