Description

The H-alpha filter operates at a wavelength of 656nm, making it the prime option for narrowband H-alpha astrophotography. It excels in high-contrast imaging, revealing intricate details of nebulae even in regions with substantial light pollution.

The OIII filter, with a narrowband of 3nm, is tailored for nebula observation, allowing only the passage of light centered on a wavelength of 500nm, corresponding to OIII emission lines, while blocking out all other light.

The SII filter, with a bandwidth of 7nm, passes light at a wavelength of 672nm, specifically designed for nebula photography. It is suitable for various emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, and supernova remnants.

For those aiming to achieve the captivating look of Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images, such as the iconic "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16), the SII filter is an essential addition to the collection, following the H-alpha and OIII filters. These three filters, when used in tri-color narrowband imaging, emulate the Hubble look for many emission nebulae, even when the moon is present, ensuring your equipment remains active.
