This filter is designed to enhance the contrast of deep-sky objects and reduce the impact of sky background interference, particularly in light-polluted areas. Achieving this involves a sophisticated transmission characteristic that allows the lines of deep-sky objects to pass while suppressing various sources of light pollution, including the atmospheric oxygen emissions responsible for "skyglow."

Unlike traditional light pollution filters such as UHC or CLS, this filter employs a multi-bandpass design, minimizing its effect on color rendition. As a result, it's suitable for photographing continuum sources like galaxies, globular clusters, and reflection nebulae, while still effectively blocking UV and IR radiation within the 700 - 1100 nm range.
