Optolong Filters SHO Filter Kit 1,25"

Narrowband filters enhance contrast by permitting only specific light wavelengths corresponding to certain spectral lines, such as hydrogen (H-alpha at 656nm), oxygen (OIII at 501nm), sulfur (SII at 672nm), among others.

Description

Narrowband filters enhance contrast by permitting only specific light wavelengths corresponding to certain spectral lines, such as hydrogen (H-alpha at 656nm), oxygen (OIII at 501nm), sulfur (SII at 672nm), among others. These filters are versatile tools suitable for astrophotography even in urban environments with light pollution or during moonlit nights. They enable long-exposure photography without compromising image quality.

OIII Filter: This narrowband OIII 3nm filter is optimized for observing nebulae, allowing a 3nm bandwidth of light centered on a wavelength of 500nm, corresponding to OIII emission lines, while effectively blocking out extraneous light.

H-alpha Filter: Specifically designed for high-contrast astrophotography, the H-alpha filter passes light at a wavelength of 656nm, making it ideal for revealing rich details of nebulae even in areas with strong light pollution.

SII Filter: The narrowband S-II 7nm filter passes light at a wavelength of 672nm with a bandpass of 3nm, tailored for nebula photography. It is well-suited for capturing emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, and supernova remnants.

If you seek to replicate the aesthetic of Hubble Space Telescope images, including iconic scenes like the "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16), consider adding the SII filter to your collection after acquiring the H-alpha and OIII filters. Like H-alpha, the SII filter operates in the deep red spectrum near 672nm, offering stunning results in combination with other narrowband filters.
