Description

The Oculus, an all-sky camera module with a 150-degree coverage, utilizes the advanced 'SuperStar' camera core to deliver high-quality, low-noise images for monitoring sky conditions and meteor watching. Encased in a satin anodized aluminum body and featuring a replaceable scratch-resistant polycarbonate viewing dome, the Oculus is both durable and reliable.

Powered via USB, the camera also includes an additional input for a 12V anti-dew heater. Its SuperHAD CCD from Sony ensures minimal thermal noise and boasts a rapid electronic shutter, eliminating the need for mechanical shutters. With its f/1.2 150-degree fisheye lens, capturing the night sky becomes effortlessly stunning.

The SX Oculus is driven by USB but requires a 12V DC input for the built-in anti-dew heaters. The included software enables the capture and creation of dramatic AVI movies from a series of exposures, making it ideal for meteor shower imaging, weather monitoring at remote observatories, and capturing the night sky in all its splendor.

Features:

  • Extremely low noise (thermal and readout)
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Remarkably low power consumption
  • Outstanding build quality

The Oculus employs a high-quality, multicoated fisheye lens with a 150-degree field of view and an exceptionally low f/1.2 focal ratio, ensuring excellent light-gathering capabilities and effortless night sky imaging.

Weatherproofing:

To address concerns about weather effects, the Oculus features careful design considerations, including four drain holes for water runoff and a bead-blasted clear anodized finish for durability.

Dome Construction:

The Oculus utilizes a polished polycarbonate dome to minimize distortion in the star field, ensuring optimal imaging quality.

Mounting & Rear Panel:

Included with the Oculus is a right-angled aluminum tripod bracket for secure mounting. The USB cable is pre-fitted and extendable using powered USB 2.0 hubs. Additionally, the rear panel includes a 2.1mm power socket for connecting the supplied power supply to operate the heaters.
