Sky Quality Meter - Simplifying Night Sky Brightness Assessment

The Sky Quality Meter offers a swift and objective means to gauge the ambient brightness of the night sky within mere seconds. Its compact design allows for effortless portability, slipping comfortably into any pocket. With this device, comparing various observing locales becomes a breeze, aiding in the selection of optimal spots for astronomical pursuits.

Unlike subjective assessments, which can be influenced by observer experience, physical condition, and eyesight, the Sky Quality Meter operates independently of such variables.

Functioning as a photometric tool, the device employs a built-in diode to measure sky brightness, displaying results in red numerals in mag/square arcsec on its screen. Upon pressing the red button, a measurement cycle completes within 8 seconds, accompanied by audible tones at one-second intervals. Measurements are confined to the visible spectrum, and the device also provides temperature readings in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Beyond its primary role in observing, the SQM serves various other purposes. For instance, it can track changes in light pollution at a specific location over time. Moreover, it facilitates not only comparisons between observing sites but also discerns variations in sky quality across different nights at the same locale.
