Sloan filters, similar to KRON and JOHN filters, are designed to isolate and measure specific bands of light emitted by astronomical objects. The main distinction between SDSS filters and KRON or JOHN filters is that Sloan filters are non-overlapping and have steeper transitions between bands.

 

The Sloan bands include U, G, R, I, and Z. Refocusing often becomes an issue when changing filters, but Andover addresses this by grinding and polishing all filters to a precisely controlled thickness. These filters are also AR coated for optimal performance and enhanced imaging quality. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has utilized these filters to create a highly detailed three-dimensional map of the universe.
