Andover Filters Sloan Z 50mm mounted (79151)

Sloan filters, similar to KRON and JOHN filters, are designed to isolate and measure specific bands of light emitted by astronomical objects. The key difference between SDSS filters and KRON or JOHN filters is that Sloan filters are non-overlapping and feature steeper transitions between bands.

 

The Sloan bands include U, G, R, I, and Z. Refocusing can often be an issue when switching filters, but Andover addresses this by grinding and polishing all filters to a precisely controlled thickness. These filters are also AR coated to ensure optimal performance and enhanced imaging quality. Using these filters, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has created a detailed three-dimensional map of the universe.
