An Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector (ADC) is a device designed to counteract the dispersion of light caused by Earth's atmosphere. When light from celestial objects passes through the atmosphere, it is refracted differently depending on its wavelength, leading to chromatic aberration or color fringing. This effect, which distorts planetary and stellar images, cannot be corrected by a telescope's optics alone. The ADC uses two adjustable prisms to introduce an opposing dispersion, effectively canceling out the atmospheric effect. This results in sharper, clearer images for both visual observations and astrophotography.
