Astronomik Filters OIII 12nm CCD Clip Canon EOS APS-C (43810)
Narrowband filters set a new standard for performance and durability in imaging and research. These filters enhance the contrast of emission targets by reducing background signals, allowing faint nebular structures to stand out more prominently. With a guaranteed >90% transmittance at the emission wavelength, they ensure the highest signal possible. Narrowband filters are particularly effective at minimizing halos around bright stars, even during long exposures of 30-45 minutes, which are common in astrophotography.

Description
Narrowband filters set a new standard for performance and durability in imaging and research. These filters enhance the contrast of emission targets by reducing background signals, allowing faint nebular structures to stand out more prominently. With a guaranteed >90% transmittance at the emission wavelength, they ensure the highest signal possible. Narrowband filters are particularly effective at minimizing halos around bright stars, even during long exposures of 30-45 minutes, which are common in astrophotography. Additionally, these filters are coated to the edge and edge-blackened to minimize stray light while blocking most light outside the narrow bandpass.
Contrast is key in narrowband imaging. Narrower filters reduce background noise and bring out faint features more effectively. However, maintaining a high signal (%T at the emission line) as the filter narrows is both challenging and costly. The >90%T guarantee ensures superior contrast compared to less expensive 7-8.5nm filters on the market. For example, images of the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) taken under identical conditions show how narrower bandwidths make the nebula and its faint surrounding nebulosity "pop" against the background. Recent advancements in production technology have further improved transmittance to 97-98% at emission wavelengths.
Please note that all camera lenses can be used with the Clip-Filter system, such as Canon EF lenses or third-party options like Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, and Walimex. However, Canon EF-S lenses are not compatible with clip-filters.
Specifications:
- Connection: EOS Clip
- Coating: Multiple coatings
- Transmission: 95%
- Frame type: Clip-Filters
- Half-value width: 12nm
Compatibility: Designed for Canon EOS cameras.
Applications:
This filter is ideal for astrophotography and anti-light pollution purposes. It is highly effective for imaging hydrogen nebulae, supernova remnants, planetary nebulae, as well as galaxies and star clusters. However, it is not visually useful for direct observation.
