Astronomik Filters ProPlanet 742 Clip-Filter EOS R XL (43754)

The Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-pass filter is specifically designed for imaging the Moon and planets, particularly Mars, using telescopes with apertures of 6" (150 mm) or larger. This filter allows only infrared light with wavelengths longer than 742 nm to pass, significantly reducing the effects of atmospheric turbulence ("seeing") compared to the visible spectrum. It also enables sharper images and allows planetary and lunar photography even during daylight, as it darkens the sky background in advanced dawn conditions.

Main Use
The filter cuts off the visible spectrum and permits light with wavelengths longer than 742 nm. This eliminates the parts of the spectrum most affected by poor seeing, resulting in steadier and sharper images of celestial objects like the Moon and planets. Exposure times remain nearly identical to those in visible light.

This filter is parfocal with other Astronomik filters and features a glass thickness of 1 mm. It is resistant to humidity, scratches, and aging effects, ensuring long-lasting performance. Additionally, it is diffraction-limited, meaning it will not degrade the optical quality of your telescope. Note that it is compatible with Canon EF lenses but not with EF-S lenses.
