It allows only infrared light with wavelengths greater than 742 nm to pass. In this range, the effects of atmospheric turbulence ("seeing") are significantly reduced compared to visible light, enabling sharper and steadier images. Additionally, the filter darkens the sky background during advanced dawn, making it suitable for planetary and lunar photography even in daylight.
