The Astronomik SII-CCD filter is a narrowband filter designed for CCD astrophotography, allowing the light of ionized sulfur (SII) to pass while blocking nearly the entire remainder of the visible spectrum and infrared light. Its full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 12nm is optimized for common CCD cameras and works well with fast optics, ranging from f/2.8 to f/15. With a transmission rate of up to 99%, this filter ensures minimal losses and no chromatic distortions under typical conditions.

Description

The Astronomik SII-CCD filter is a narrowband filter designed for CCD astrophotography, allowing the light of ionized sulfur (SII) to pass while blocking nearly the entire remainder of the visible spectrum and infrared light. Its full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 12nm is optimized for common CCD cameras and works well with fast optics, ranging from f/2.8 to f/15. With a transmission rate of up to 99%, this filter ensures minimal losses and no chromatic distortions under typical conditions. It is also ideal for setups with built-in autoguiders, as it provides better availability of guiding stars compared to stronger filters like the 6nm version. The filter significantly enhances contrast by suppressing artificial lighting (mercury and sodium emission lines) and skyglow, making it perfect for imaging faint emission nebulae.
