Astronomik Filters ProPlanet 742 IR XT Clip filter for Canon EOS APS-C cameras (54611)
The Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-pass filter is an excellent choice for imaging the Moon and planets, especially Mars, using telescopes with apertures of 6" (150mm) or larger. This filter allows only infrared light with wavelengths greater than 742 nm to pass through, significantly reducing the effects of atmospheric turbulence (seeing) compared to the visible spectrum. As a result, much sharper images can be achieved from your location and equipment.

Description
The Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-pass filter is an excellent choice for imaging the Moon and planets, especially Mars, using telescopes with apertures of 6" (150mm) or larger. This filter allows only infrared light with wavelengths greater than 742 nm to pass through, significantly reducing the effects of atmospheric turbulence (seeing) compared to the visible spectrum. As a result, much sharper images can be achieved from your location and equipment. Additionally, the filter darkens the sky background during advanced dawn or daylight, enabling planetary and lunar photography even in daylight conditions.
Main Functionality
This filter blocks the visible spectrum while transmitting light with wavelengths longer than 742 nm. By excluding the part of the spectrum most affected by poor seeing, it greatly enhances the imaging of celestial objects like planets and the Moon. The resulting images are more stable and detailed, with exposure times nearly identical to those used in visible light imaging.
Compatibility Note: All camera lenses, including Canon EF lenses and third-party brands like Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, and Walimex, are compatible with this clip-filter system. However, Canon EF-S lenses are not compatible with clip-filters.
Specifications
- Transmission: Over 96% for wavelengths between 742 nm and 1100 nm
- Blocking Range: 350 nm to 730 nm
- Glass Thickness: 1 mm
- Material: Aluminium mount
- Frame Type: Clip-Filters
- Applications: Suitable for astrophotography but not for visual observing
The Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-pass filter is parfocal with other Astronomik filters and is resistant to humidity, scratches, and aging effects. Its diffraction-limited design ensures that it does not degrade the optical performance of your telescope. This makes it an indispensable tool for astrophotographers seeking sharper planetary and lunar images under challenging seeing conditions.
