Berlebach Mount Omega Spica AZ (83295)

This mount is specifically designed for large binoculars, double refractors, refractor telescopes, and photo or video equipment with long focal lengths. By utilizing counterweights and a variable lever arm ratio, it enables the center of gravity to align with the axis of rotation, ensuring smooth and precise movements in all directions. Vertical pans of over 90° in both directions are easily achievable.

Description

This mount is specifically designed for large binoculars, double refractors, refractor telescopes, and photo or video equipment with long focal lengths. By utilizing counterweights and a variable lever arm ratio, it enables the center of gravity to align with the axis of rotation, ensuring smooth and precise movements in all directions. Vertical pans of over 90° in both directions are easily achievable. Friction on both the horizontal and vertical axes can be adjusted using a single screw for each axis, with the effect decreasing as the load increases.

The compact design features dual-sided clamping, minimizing vibrations while maximizing stability. Unlike traditional mounts, the clamping unit is positioned on top rather than between the fork, providing ample space for mounting even very large optics such as binoculars. Lateral rails are secured using a GP prism clamp with a pressure shoe. The modular system ensures compatibility with other Berlebach quick couplings, and the mount can also be disassembled into a smaller travel-friendly setup by using only the prism clamp and counterweight rod.

The tripod connection uses a standard 3/8” photo thread, making it compatible with most photo tripods. For optimal use and sufficient space for counterweights to swing freely, a tripod with a center column is recommended—preferably one with a crank column for easy height adjustment. An optional extra-short star grip for vertical clamping can lower the center of gravity by an additional 2 cm, reducing the need for counterweights while maintaining balance.
