Despite the long focal length of these telescopes, the OTA (Optical Tube Assembly) is compact and lightweight, making it easy to transport. Light enters through an aspherically figured Schmidt corrector plate, reflects off a spherical primary mirror, and is directed to a secondary mirror. The light then passes back through the central hole in the primary mirror into the focuser at the bottom of the OTA. This closed system prevents air turbulence that could degrade image quality and protects against dust. The Schmidt plate is multi-coated to ensure bright, high-contrast images with minimal stray light reflections.
