The Celestron EdgeHD is an "aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope" that redefines optical performance. After more than 50 years of innovation, it has revolutionized the classic Schmidt-Cassegrain design. The EdgeHD ("Edge High Definition") is a true astrograph, delivering distortion-free, sharp images across the entire field of view. Unlike other "coma-free" designs that only correct coma off-axis, the EdgeHD also eliminates field curvature.

Many telescopes marketed as "astrographs" produce sharp stars but along a curved image plane, leading to field curvature when used with cameras. This results in distorted stars at the edges of images. The EdgeHD corrects both coma and field curvature, ensuring pinpoint stars even at the edges. This significantly improves resolution and magnitude limits compared to competing systems. Additionally, the XLT multi-coating enhances performance.
