Description
The StarSense Explorer telescope transforms stargazing by using your smartphone to analyze the night sky and calculate its position in real time. It is ideal for beginners, thanks to the StarSense Explorer app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials. With this telescope, it’s like having your own personal tour guide to the cosmos.
Effortless Navigation:
Forget complicated star charts, inaccurate planetarium apps, and cumbersome computerized mounts. With StarSense Explorer, locating celestial objects is faster, easier, and more accurate. Within minutes of setup, you’ll confidently navigate the night sky. Simply place your smartphone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the app. After a quick 2-minute alignment with the telescope’s optics, the app generates a list of visible celestial objects. Select an object, follow the onscreen arrows to move the telescope, and when aligned, the bullseye turns green—indicating it’s ready for viewing.
Advanced Technology:
StarSense Explorer uses patent-pending technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed. Its Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), similar to those used by satellites for orientation, matches star patterns detected overhead with its internal database for precise positioning.
Light Pollution Friendly:
Even in light-polluted areas, StarSense Explorer can identify major celestial objects such as Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars, and more.
Smartphone Compatibility:
Minimum smartphone requirements and tested models are available separately.
N 254/1200 Telescope: Large Aperture for Deep Sky Observing
This Newtonian reflector telescope features a large 254mm aperture that allows for detailed deep-sky observations. It collects nearly three times as much light as a 114mm telescope. While smaller telescopes may only reveal the cores of galaxies, this instrument can show spiral structures in galaxies and resolve globular clusters into individual stars that fill the entire field of view.
With a telescope of this size, you’ll have everything you need for a lifetime of exploring the night sky.
Practical Design for Portability:
This aperture size represents the upper limit for portable enclosed OTA (optical tube assembly) Newtonians. Larger instruments are typically only portable if they feature a truss-tube design. However, enclosed OTAs offer several advantages: they maintain collimation better, protect optics from dust and debris, eliminate stray light issues, and are quicker to set up.
The Dobsonian Advantage: Simple and Quick Assembly
Dobsonian telescopes are known for their simplicity and affordability. They consist of only two main parts that can be assembled in no time. Compared to equatorial mounts of similar size, Dobsonian mounts are much less expensive. These telescopes are primarily designed for visual observation, allowing you to discover the wonders of the night sky with ease.
