Moravian Off-Axis-Guider Off-axis guider for G2 and T2 CCD cameras (50291)
The Moravian Off-Axis Guider is specifically designed for use with G2 and T2 CCD cameras. It allows for precise tracking and imaging by using a single telescope, which removes the need for a separate guide scope. This approach reduces overall weight and cost, while also ensuring mechanical stability. Because the guider camera is attached directly to the imaging setup, any mechanical distortions are shared, allowing for more accurate guiding corrections.

Description

Technical Details:
-
Back focus distance is 21.5 mm (Mark II version).
-
The camera/eyepiece side uses the Moravian G2 Mark II bolt pattern.
-
The guider port is a standard 1.25" nosepiece connection.
-
The telescope side uses a female 2" filter/wide T-ring (M48x0.75) connection.
-
Available thread sizes include T-thread (M42 × 0.75) and M48 × 0.75, both designed to maintain a 55 mm back focal distance.
-
The mirror has a 10 × 7 mm front cross-section, with actual dimensions of 10 × 10 mm, set at a 45° angle.
-
Compatible with any guiding camera that has a 1.25" eyepiece nose. Some cameras may require a shorter nosepiece to achieve focus.
-
Suitable for use with G0 and G1 cameras, and cameras with a CS-mount can use a special adapter.
Features:
-
The off-axis guider uses a tilted mirror to direct a small portion of incoming light to the guiding camera, without impacting the main imaging path.
-
Compatible with both internal and external filter wheels. When using an external filter wheel, no spacer is needed. With an internal filter wheel, a spacer must be placed between the OAG and the camera.
-
The guider port is a standard 1.25", making it compatible with a wide range of guiding cameras.
-
Available in M42 and M48 thread sizes. The M48 thread provides a larger opening, ensuring the mirror is fully illuminated, which is beneficial for use with modern correctors and adapters.
-
The Mark II version includes tip-tilt collimation screws for precise alignment of the sensor plane with the image field.
Usage Notes:
-
For telescopes with long focal lengths, the guider camera’s field of view is small, which may make finding a suitable guide star more challenging and could require repositioning the telescope.
-
The guider samples light from the edge of the field, where star images may be distorted in some optical systems. This can affect the brightness and centroid calculations for guide stars.
-
The system is designed for a total back focal distance of 55 mm, making it compatible with many optical accessories such as coma correctors and field flatteners.
