Description

The Nikon P-EFL Epi-FL-Illuminator is an epi-fluorescence attachment designed for use with Nikon stereo microscopes, such as the SMZ1270, SMZ1270i, SMZ800N, SMZ18, and SMZ25. This illuminator enables fluorescence observation by directing excitation light through the objective lens onto the specimen, allowing users to visualize fluorescent signals with high clarity and contrast. The P-EFL Epi-FL-Illuminator is suitable for a wide range of research applications, including cell biology, developmental biology, and materials science, where fluorescence labeling is used to highlight specific structures or molecules.

Purpose and Features:

  • Allows for epi-fluorescence microscopy by introducing excitation light through the objective lens, enabling detection of fluorescent signals from samples

  • Compatible with various Nikon stereo microscopes, including the SMZ1270, SMZ1270i, SMZ800N, SMZ18, and SMZ25

  • Utilizes filter cubes to select the appropriate excitation and emission wavelengths for different fluorophores (e.g., GFP, RFP)

  • The system provides bright and uniform illumination, even at low magnifications, due to the use of a fly-eye lens design in advanced models

  • Manual rotation type for easy switching between filter cubes and observation modes

  • Can be used in combination with other illumination accessories, such as darkfield units or coaxial illuminators, for flexible imaging options

  • Includes a light shading plate to minimize stray light and improve image contrast

Operation:

  • Insert the appropriate filter cube for your fluorophore into the illuminator

  • Close the shutter before turning on the light source to protect the sample and the observer

  • After the lamp has stabilized, open the shutter to direct excitation light onto the sample

  • Adjust the ND filters and brightness controls to optimize image quality

  • When finished, close the shutter to block the light and protect the fluorophores from photobleaching

Applications:

  • Fluorescence imaging of biological samples, such as cells, tissues, and embryos

  • Visualization of fluorescently labeled proteins, nucleic acids, or other molecules

  • Research in developmental biology, neuroscience, and materials science

  • Routine laboratory work and advanced research requiring sensitive detection of fluorescence signals

The Nikon P-EFL Epi-FL-Illuminator is an essential tool for researchers who need reliable, high-contrast fluorescence imaging on Nikon stereo microscope platforms, supporting a variety of scientific and industrial applications.
