Optolong Filters Clip Filter for Canon EOS APS-C CLS-CCD (59443)

The CLS (City Light Suppression) broadband filter is designed to enhance the visibility of deep sky objects by reducing the transmission of certain wavelengths associated with light pollution. It is particularly effective at blocking light from artificial sources such as mercury and sodium vapor lamps, as well as minimizing the unwanted 'sky glow' effect. The filter remains highly transparent to the main emission lines of nebulae, including OIII (496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII (654nm and 658nm), H-alpha (656nm), and SII (672nm).

Description

The CLS (City Light Suppression) broadband filter is designed to enhance the visibility of deep sky objects by reducing the transmission of certain wavelengths associated with light pollution. It is particularly effective at blocking light from artificial sources such as mercury and sodium vapor lamps, as well as minimizing the unwanted 'sky glow' effect. The filter remains highly transparent to the main emission lines of nebulae, including OIII (496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII (654nm and 658nm), H-alpha (656nm), and SII (672nm). This makes it suitable for both visual and photographic astronomy, especially in areas affected by urban light pollution.

CLS-CCD filters differ from standard CLS filters by blocking infrared wavelengths between 700-1100nm, making them suitable for use with color CCD cameras and modified DSLRs in astrophotography. These filters are effective with most emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, and supernova remnants, providing a noticeable increase in contrast and visibility of faint details. While light pollution filters do not completely eliminate the effects of artificial light or make astronomical objects brighter, they significantly improve the contrast between nebulae and the night sky.

Important: This filter must never be used as the only solar filter.
