The use of a cogwheel gear system allows for rapid dome rotation. The variable frequency drive provides precise control of the rotary motor, enabling both smooth acceleration and deceleration. The soft start feature not only enhances tracking accuracy for the telescope but also extends the lifespan of the gear mechanism by minimizing wear. The dome’s encoder now interacts directly with the aluminum cogs of the driving rim, eliminating the need for an encoder tape and further improving reliability.

 

Additional Features

  • The dome can automatically open the shutter at any azimuth using a built-in power ring rotating mechanism (slip ring).

  • All shutter rolls and rotating mechanisms are concealed inside the dome for protection against weather and to maximize usable space.

  • The dome is powered safely by a 12V DC supply, suitable for motors, control cards, and heating systems.

  • Modular design allows for future upgrades, including additional automation and control options.
