Sony Camera A7a III Super UV/IR-Cut (75025)
The Sony A7a III Super UV/IR-Cut is an astromodified version of the Sony A7 III, designed for advanced astrophotography. Standard cameras use a filter to block much of the red spectrum, matching human color perception in daylight, but this also blocks the crucial H-alpha emission line that reveals astronomical gas nebulae. With the Super UV/IR-Cut modification, the original filter is replaced by one that allows the full visible spectrum (400–700 nm) to reach the sensor, significantly increasing sensitivity to H-alpha and SII emissions while blocking unwanted ultraviolet and infrared light.

Description
This makes the camera ideal for capturing faint nebulae and other deep-sky objects, fully utilizing the large full-frame sensor.
The Sony A7a III Super UV/IR-Cut is an excellent choice for astrophotographers seeking increased sensitivity to deep-sky objects, especially faint nebulae, while retaining all the advanced features and versatility of the original Sony A7 III.
Astromodification Benefits and Features
-
The Super UV/IR-Cut filter enables the camera to capture all visible light between 400 nm and 700 nm, maximizing sensitivity to important astronomical features and blocking UV and IR wavelengths that can reduce image sharpness.
-
Enhanced red sensitivity is perfect for imaging extended gas nebulae and other deep-sky targets.
-
The camera retains all standard features, including autofocus, LiveView, and the ability to be used for regular photography with a custom white balance.
-
The camera is portable and easy to use, with no need for an external computer or power supply.
-
Package includes camera body, battery, charger, USB cable, and manual.
Types of Astromodification Available
-
Baader Astromodification: Uses a Baader BCF filter to transmit 420–680 nm, increasing H-alpha sensitivity by about four times compared to an unmodified camera.
-
Super UV/IR-Cut Astromodification: Uses a filter that transmits the full visible spectrum (400–700 nm), maximizing light collection and blocking UV/IR.
-
Full Range Astromodification: Expands sensitivity to ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light starting at 300 nm for maximum flexibility.
Additional Notes
-
The astromodification is performed by specialists such as AstroHobby in Italy, who carefully remove and replace the original filter.
-
During the modification process, the camera is opened and tested, so the shutter count will not be zero, but the camera is not used for regular photography and is sold as new unless otherwise specified.
-
For best astrophotography results, especially with refractor telescopes, a UV/IR cut filter is recommended to prevent star bloat and maintain sharpness.
