Starizona Hyperstar for Celestron EdgeHD 8 v4 (83130)
The Starizona HyperStar for Celestron EdgeHD 8 v4 is an innovative optical accessory that transforms your Celestron EdgeHD 8" telescope into a high-speed, wide-field imaging system, perfect for deep-sky astrophotography. By replacing the standard secondary mirror with the HyperStar lens assembly, you can mount a CCD, CMOS, or DSLR camera directly at the front of the telescope. This dramatically increases the telescope’s speed and field of view, allowing you to capture bright, detailed images of the night sky with much shorter exposure times and less demanding tracking requirements.

Description
The HyperStar system is the fastest and most straightforward way to achieve high-quality deep-sky astrophotography with your Celestron EdgeHD 8" telescope. It eliminates the need for complicated mounts, guiding, or long exposures, making astrophotography more accessible and enjoyable. With HyperStar, deep-sky images that once took hours to capture can now be achieved in seconds, completely transforming your imaging experience.
How HyperStar Works
HyperStar is a multi-lens corrector system that takes the place of the secondary mirror in the Schmidt corrector plate. It corrects for coma and field curvature, which are usually handled by the secondary mirror, using precision optics. Once installed, your camera images at the telescope’s primary focus, reducing the focal ratio from f/10 to f/1.9. This means exposure times are reduced by about 25 times-a 30-second exposure with HyperStar can match the brightness of a 12-minute exposure at f/10.
Key Benefits and Features
-
Converts your EdgeHD 8" telescope into a digital Schmidt camera, but still allows you to use the telescope in its standard configuration when needed.
-
Dramatically reduces exposure times, making astrophotography possible even with basic altazimuth mounts.
-
No need for precise polar alignment or guiding, as short exposures eliminate field rotation and tracking errors.
-
Mirror shift is reduced by a factor of 5, so focusing is stable and easy.
-
Delivers image quality comparable to high-end astrographs, with sharp stars and a flat, coma-free field.
-
Ideal for wide-field imaging, sky surveys, comet observation, and deep-sky photography.
-
Compatible with a wide range of cameras, including CCD, CMOS, and DSLR models (camera-specific adapters required).
-
Camera adapter is threaded for 2" (48 mm) filters.
-
Quick and easy to switch between HyperStar and standard f/10 use, with no need for re-collimation.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Focusing is done using the main mirror, just as with the standard setup.
-
Visual observing is not possible with HyperStar installed, as the camera blocks the light path.
-
Mirror shift is significantly reduced, making it a non-issue for imaging.
-
Image quality is comparable to RC astrographs and suitable for semi-professional cameras.
-
Camera obstruction is not a problem for imaging; professional telescopes often have larger obstructions.
-
The HyperStar lens is pre-collimated; switching back to standard use requires no additional collimation.
-
The main disadvantage is that you may want to spend every clear night imaging the sky!
