Description
Omegon Ritchey-Chretien Pro RC 304/2432 Lightweight Truss OTA
The Omegon RC Truss Carbon telescope features a honeycomb-structured quartz glass primary mirror, designed for faster thermal balance and optimal imaging performance.
For those passionate about astrophotography and searching for the right telescope for their observatory, Richey-Chretien telescopes offer a large aperture and nearly perfect imaging. With two hyperbolic mirrors, these telescopes provide a wide, illuminated, and coma-free field of view in a compact system, delivering pinpoint stars all the way to the edge. This design is why many professional observatories and research institutions choose this type of telescope.
These telescopes use professional-level technology and are balanced enough to fit into smaller observatories.
Key Highlights:
-
Hyperbolic mirrors deliver an extremely sharp image with a wide field of view, no correctors needed
-
Quartz glass primary mirror for stable focus, minimizing the need for frequent refocusing
-
Supports large format CCD cameras, with approximately 60mm of illumination
-
Carbon truss tube construction for a stiff, thermally stable system
-
Dielectric mirror coating with 92-94% reflectivity ensures bright, high-contrast observation and imaging
-
Open truss design for rapid cooling and minimized tube seeing
-
Powerful electric fans to further accelerate cooling of the optics
The hyperbolic mirror design sets RC telescopes apart from standard Schmidt-Cassegrain systems, providing a wider, better-corrected image field with fewer aberrations. These optics maintain high image quality across a wide field, making them ideal for astrophotography and use with large CCD cameras. Photos are sharp right to the edge, even without using a field corrector.
RC telescopes use only mirrors, with no lenses in the optical path. This eliminates issues like chromatic aberration and dispersion, enabling use across a wider range of the spectrum, including ultraviolet and infrared.
The primary mirror in this model is made of high-quality quartz glass with a honeycomb structure and reduced mass, resulting in fast thermal balance for improved imaging quality—an advantage for advanced amateur astronomers who want professional results.
Both mirrors are coated for 92-94% reflectivity, producing bright, high-contrast images, and reflecting up to 17% more light compared to standard telescope mirrors.
A built-in 12V fan cools the main mirror up to 50% faster, enabling you to reach optimum image quality sooner.
The carbon-fiber truss-tube design is used in most professional telescopes, offering a rigid, lightweight, and thermally stable structure. This prevents focus drift and encourages better natural ventilation, avoiding microclimates inside the tube.
Large, unobstructed aperture and 3” focuser
A bearing-mounted 3" Linear Crayford Focuser provides enough space for large format imaging fields without vignetting. This hybrid focuser combines the smooth operation of a Crayford with the stability of a rack and pinion design. Features include:
-
Fully rotatable focuser for ideal object alignment
-
Reducers from 3” to 2” and from 2” to 1.25” with integrated compression rings
-
Fine focusing with 1:10 gear reduction for precise adjustments
-
Focus scale for quick and repeatable focusing
-
Highly stable design, keeping the camera perfectly aligned to the optical axis
Connections: M78x0.75 (female), Adapter (3mm optical length) to M74x0.75 (male), M74 to 2" reduction (25mm optical length), 2" to 1.25" reduction (10mm optical length)
The focuser can be collimated independently from the optics using six adjustment screws, ensuring the camera or eyepiece sits exactly on the optical axis.
Advantages over SC telescopes
Unlike Schmidt-Cassegrain or Maksutov designs, the RC telescope has no corrector plate, making it an open system that adapts quickly to ambient temperatures and produces brighter images with no internal reflections. Ritchey-Chretien telescopes are the most highly corrected two-mirror telescopes, with impressive edge-to-edge sharpness, which is why they are favored in professional observatories.
Now within reach
Producing hyperbolic mirrors used to be extremely costly, limiting these telescopes to institutional use. Today, this advanced technology is available and affordable for experienced amateur astronomers.
