Starizona Hyperstar Celestron C6 v4 (60266)
The HyperStar system transforms your Celestron C6 Schmidt-Cassegrain into a powerful 150 mm f/2 CCD telescope for astrophotography. HyperStar is a multi-lens correction system that replaces the standard secondary mirror in the Schmidt corrector plate of an SC telescope. It corrects for coma and field curvature, normally handled by the secondary mirror, using advanced optical design. The CCD or DSLR camera is mounted directly onto the front of the telescope.

Description
The HyperStar system transforms your Celestron C6 Schmidt-Cassegrain into a powerful 150 mm f/2 CCD telescope for astrophotography.
Key Features
-
Distance to camera sensor: 39.8 mm from the top edge of the HyperStar (without external thread) or 44.3 mm including external thread (same as the HyperStar for C8).
-
Illuminated and corrected field of view: 28 mm diameter.
-
Camera compatibility: The HyperStar for C6 is suitable for astro cameras only. SLR cameras are not supported due to their longer working distance.
-
Maximum sensor size: 16 mm diagonal.
-
Field of view with 16 mm sensor: 2.4° x 1.9°.
How HyperStar Works
HyperStar is a multi-lens correction system that replaces the standard secondary mirror in the Schmidt corrector plate of an SC telescope. It corrects for coma and field curvature, normally handled by the secondary mirror, using advanced optical design. The CCD or DSLR camera is mounted directly onto the front of the telescope.
Benefits
-
Converts your Celestron SC telescope into a fast digital Schmidt camera for astrophotography at f/2 (C8, C11) or f/1.9 (C14).
-
Drastically reduces exposure times. A 30-second exposure at f/2 produces the same image brightness as a 12-minute exposure at f/10—exposure times are shortened by about 25 times.
-
Sharper images with less risk of blurring from atmospheric turbulence or tracking errors.
-
No need for an equatorial mount; short exposures avoid issues with field rotation.
-
Easily stack multiple short exposures for high-quality deep sky images.
Compatibility and Upgrades
-
HyperStar kits are available for C8, C9.25, C11, and C14 OTAs.
-
Mechanical conversion kits are available for making standard SC telescopes HyperStar compatible.
-
FastStar versions of Celestron telescopes can be directly converted by unscrewing the secondary mirror and installing the HyperStar system with an adapter ring.
Summary of HyperStar Advantages
-
Converts your standard Celestron SC telescope into a digital Schmidt camera while maintaining the ability to use it as a normal SC telescope.
-
Eliminates primary mirror shift problems.
-
Enables extremely short exposure times.
-
Simplifies tracking—quality astrophotography is possible even with basic altazimuth mounts.
-
No precise polar alignment required for short exposures.
-
Allows astrophotography with narrowband line filters due to high light gathering power.
-
Fully compatible with new Celestron SC HD OTAs.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Focusing: Use the main mirror, as with the unmodified telescope.
-
Visual observation: Not possible through HyperStar, as the observer's head would block the aperture.
-
Mirror shift: Reduced by a factor of 5, so it's no longer a problem.
-
Image quality: Comparable to RC astrographs; suitable for high-end cameras; stars are sharper than at f/10.
-
Camera obstruction: Not a significant issue for imaging; professional telescopes have even larger obstructions.
-
Collimation: The HyperStar lens is factory-collimated; switching back to standard mode requires no new collimation.
-
Disadvantages: You may not want to go to bed on clear nights!
The HyperStar system makes deep sky astrophotography fast and simple—no polar alignment, equatorial mount, or guiding required. Exposure times are reduced from hours to seconds, making astrophotography accessible and easy.
