iOptron iAFS Electronic Focuser with iLock™ Technology

iOptron introduces the iAFS, one of the most versatile electronic focusers currently available. The iOptron iAFS focuser features innovative iLock™ technology and stands out from conventional designs by mounting directly along the optical axis. This eliminates the need for bulky external mounting brackets that can introduce flexure or tilt.

Patented Design and Focusing System

At the heart of the patented iAFS design is a precision lead screw. This passive position-locking mechanism securely holds heavy payloads, such as astrophotography systems and imaging trains, in place once movement stops. Focus is reliably maintained even when the telescope is tilted.

The iAFS offers three focusing modes and includes a USB port for computer control, integrated direction buttons for manual electronic adjustments, and a manual focus wheel. The manual wheel is particularly useful because it disengages the motorized drive, allowing rapid coarse focusing over long distances before switching back to electronic fine adjustment.

Advanced Features and Build Quality

Additional features include an integrated temperature sensor, multiple USB-C ports, and a robust all-metal housing with a dirt-resistant outer finish. The focuser provides a positioning accuracy of 0.6 microns, while the 3-inch version achieves an even finer accuracy of 0.4 microns. An automatic position limit function prevents the focuser from running beyond its mechanical range.

Connectivity and Compatibility

The focuser is supplied with a standard 2-inch connection, which can also be used to attach cameras with a 2-inch barrel. Optional camera adapters for threaded connections, as well as telescope-specific adapters, are available separately.
