The Canon EOS R6 Mark III is designed as a high-performance, do-it-all camera for creators who work seriously with both stills and video. It combines a new 32.5MP full-frame sensor, DIGIC X processing, advanced hybrid features, refined handling and robust build quality to handle a wide variety of shooting situations. The camera supports 7K video recording, still shooting at up to 40 fps, improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Register People Priority, up to 8.5 stops of image stabilisation, and accepts both CFexpress Type B and SD memory cards for flexible file storage.

32.5MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC X processing

The 32.5MP full-frame CMOS sensor delivers greater detail, higher print resolution and more room for cropping than previous R6 models. Paired with the DIGIC X processor, it produces clean, detailed images with low noise and a wide sensitivity range, while also powering the Dual Pixel AF system, continuous shooting, video features and in-body stabilisation.

Borrowing processing architecture from Canon’s higher-end R3, the R6 Mark III supports:

• Up to 40 fps continuous shooting with the silent electronic shutter

• Up to 12 fps continuous shooting with the mechanical shutter

• AF and AE metering performed before each frame in burst mode

A Pre-Continuous Shooting mode can capture around 20 extra frames before you fully press the shutter button, helping you record critical split-second moments.

SCN shooting modes

For users who are new to photography or who want ready-made looks straight from the camera, the EOS R6 Mark III includes a wide range of SCN (Scene) modes that adjust exposure and settings based on the subject:

• Stills SCN modes include Portrait, Smooth Skin Portrait, Group Photo, Landscape, Panoramic Shot, Sports, Kids, Panning, Close-Up, Food, Night Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, HDR Backlight Control and Silent Shutter.

• For video, scene-based options such as Smooth Skin Movie, Close-Up Demos, Movie IS and HDR help you get polished results without extensive grading.

7K video recording and advanced movie features

Beyond stills, the R6 Mark III is an extremely capable video camera suitable for hybrid creators:

• Internally records 7K video up to 60p in 12-bit Canon RAW Light.

• With an external recorder, you can capture 7K video up to 30p in ProRes RAW.

• Supports 7K Open Gate 3:2 recording at 30p in 10-bit MP4 or 12-bit RAW. Open Gate is especially useful for social media because it allows flexible reframing to 9:16 vertical, 1:1, 4:3, 4:5 and other aspect ratios from one master frame.

• DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording is available at up to 119.8p, giving 5× slow motion when played back at 23.98 fps.

• At DCI 2K and Full HD, recording is possible at up to 179.8p. Audio is recorded for all resolutions and frame rates, except when using Slow & Fast (S&F) mode.

• A dedicated Slow and Fast Motion (S&F) setting on the mode dial lets you choose resolution, frame rate, playback speed and compression specifically for high-speed or slow-motion work.

• 4K FINE mode uses oversampling for especially sharp and clean DCI 4K and UHD 4K footage in XF AVC S format.

LUTs, Canon Log and in-camera colour control

To give you more control over the look of your footage without relying solely on external grading:

• Canon Log 2 is available for maximum dynamic range, offering more than 15 stops of latitude for advanced colour grading.

• LUTs can be loaded and applied in-camera using the Apply Look function. You can register 17-grid or 33-grid .cube LUTs and save them as Custom Picture profiles to apply during recording. LUTs can also be transferred from a smartphone via the Canon Camera Connect app.

• Fourteen Colour Filters allow you to apply creative colour and tonal adjustments directly to JPEG stills or MP4 video.

• A Custom Picture menu gives direct access to Canon Log 2, Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ, Canon 709, BT.709, Colour Filters and other adjustable picture parameters.

Additional video tools

• Pressing the Magnify button while recording enlarges the image temporarily so you can check focus without stopping the clip.

• Pre-Recording can buffer up to about 5 seconds of footage before you press the record button, helping ensure you do not miss unpredictable action.

• Auto Level works with the in-body stabiliser to keep the horizon level by making tiny sensor adjustments.

• Focus breathing correction (with supported lenses) reduces changes in angle of view when shifting focus.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with Register People Priority

The R6 Mark III uses the latest Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, updated using technology from the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II:

• Intelligent subject detection can recognise people, animals and vehicles. Once a subject is detected, the AF system tracks it smoothly across the frame in both stills and video.

• Register People Priority, included in a 6-series camera for the first time, lets you photograph and register specific people in-camera so they are prioritised over other faces in the scene. This is especially useful in busy environments. Up to 10 people can be registered at once.

• Four new AF area patterns are available, and you can now cancel subject detection or tracking when you want more direct control. AF settings can also be stored and recalled, making it faster to switch between different focusing behaviours.

• Custom buttons can be assigned to recall a preset focus position, similar to the focus recall functions on Canon’s super-telephoto lenses.

• Movie Servo AF uses algorithms from Canon’s cinema cameras (such as the C400 and C80) to make focus transitions smooth and natural, resembling carefully pulled manual focus.

8.5-stop in-body image stabilisation

• The upgraded 5-axis in-body image stabiliser (IBIS) can compensate for up to 8.5 stops of camera shake at the centre of the frame and around 7.5 stops at the edges, depending on the lens and settings.

• This stabilisation greatly helps when shooting handheld in low light or when recording video without a gimbal.

• When used with RF lenses that include optical IS, Coordinated IS combines lens and sensor stabilisation for even stronger shake reduction.

• Movie Digital IS adds digital stabilisation on top of optical and sensor-based methods to further smooth footage when moving with the camera.

Body design, EVF and rear screen

• The 0.5" OLED electronic viewfinder has 3.69 million dots and 0.76× magnification, offering a bright, detailed view. OVF View Assist simulates the tonal range and feel of an optical viewfinder.

• The 3.0" rear vari-angle touchscreen LCD has 1.62 million dots, making it ideal for front-facing recording (such as vlogging), high-angle, low-angle and creative viewpoints.
