Nikon Z6 II Mirrorless Camera with 24–70mm f/4 Lens
The Nikon Z6 II is a fast, flexible full‑frame mirrorless camera designed for serious stills and video work. It builds on the original Z6 with more speed, better processing, and expanded features, while retaining the familiar handling and high image quality that many photographers already appreciate.
At its core is a 24.5 MP back‑illuminated CMOS sensor paired with dual EXPEED 6 image processors. This combination delivers a deeper buffer and faster continuous shooting—up to 14 fps with single‑point AF or up to 12 fps with other AF modes. Video recording is available in UHD 4K up to 30p, or Full HD up to 120p for smooth slow‑motion footage. External recording supports 10‑bit output along with N‑Log and HLG (HDR) gamma profiles. The wide ISO range from 100 to 51,200 (expandable) makes it suitable for a variety of lighting conditions, and the in‑body 5‑axis Vibration Reduction system helps keep handheld images sharp.
The sensor integrates a 273‑point phase‑detection AF system that covers most of the frame, now including Eye‑Detection AF in Wide‑Area AF modes and during movie recording. Focusing remains reliable in very low light, down to approximately –4.5 EV.
For storage, the Z6 II now features dual memory card slots: one CFexpress Type B (or XQD) slot and one SD UHS‑II slot, allowing overflow, backup, or separate storage of different file types. A 3.6M‑dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 3.2" 2.1M‑dot tilting touchscreen LCD give flexible viewing options for shooting and playback. SnapBridge wireless connectivity (Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi) enables remote camera control, image transfer to a mobile device, and firmware updates over the air.
Second‑Generation Z Enhancements
-
Dual EXPEED 6 processors increase buffer capacity, allow up to 14 fps continuous shooting, and reduce viewfinder blackout.
-
Updated autofocus adds Eye and Face Detection for humans and animals in Wide‑Area AF for both stills and video.
-
Timed long exposures up to 900 seconds (15 minutes) are now possible without using an external remote.
-
Dual card slots (CFexpress Type B and SD UHS‑II) offer flexible file management with overflow, backup, or separated storage.
-
USB Type‑C supports in‑camera charging and continuous power for long sessions.
-
The direction of the focus ring on compatible lenses can be reversed to match user preference.
-
HDR (HLG) output when recording externally provides HDR‑ready video files for direct playback on compatible displays. N‑Log remains available for footage intended for colour grading.
-
Optional ProRes RAW upgrade (via compatible external recorder such as Atomos) allows 12‑bit ProRes RAW output over HDMI for maximum grading flexibility.
-
SnapBridge can be used to update the camera firmware from a smart device instead of relying on a memory card.
-
Creative tools include Multiple Exposure, 20 Picture Control profiles, in‑camera time‑lapse creation, and Focus Shift shooting (up to 300 frames) for focus stacking.
-
Compatible with the optional MB‑N11 power battery pack for extended battery life and improved handling.
24.5 MP FX‑Format BSI CMOS Sensor and Dual EXPEED 6 Processors
The 24.5 MP full‑frame back‑illuminated CMOS sensor is designed for general‑purpose photography, low‑light performance, and fast readout. The back‑illuminated structure improves high‑ISO image quality, reducing noise while maintaining colour and detail. The native ISO range extends up to 51,200 and can be expanded further, while still supporting clean results at lower ISOs such as ISO 100.
Dual EXPEED 6 processors power the camera’s performance, enabling continuous shooting at up to 14 frames per second for up to 124 images in a burst, and keeping overall operation responsive during stills, video, and time‑lapse capture.
UHD 4K Video and Advanced Movie Features
The Z6 II is designed as a strong hybrid camera for both stills and video:
-
UHD 4K (3840 × 2160) recording up to 30p with full pixel readout.
-
Full HD (1920 × 1080) recording up to 120p for smooth slow‑motion playback.
-
Recording can be done internally to the memory card or output as an uncompressed signal via HDMI to an external recorder.
Additional video tools:
-
N‑Log gamma for flat, high‑dynamic‑range footage intended for colour grading.
-
HLG (HDR) for HDR‑ready video output to compatible displays.
-
10‑bit output via HDMI for improved colour depth with external recorders.
-
Electronic VR for smoother handheld video.
-
Focus Peaking to assist manual focusing.
-
Zebra display to highlight areas at risk of overexposure.
Audio can be captured with the built‑in stereo microphone or an external microphone via the 3.5 mm input, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack allows real‑time audio monitoring.
273‑Point Phase‑Detect AF System
The sensor includes 273 phase‑detection AF points covering about 90% of the frame horizontally and vertically. This provides fast, accurate focusing and effective subject tracking across most of the image area. For video, hybrid AF automatically switches between phase‑detect and contrast‑detect AF to keep focus transitions smooth. NIKKOR Z lenses are optimised for quiet, precise autofocus, which is ideal for movie shooting.
In‑Body 5‑Axis Vibration Reduction
The camera’s sensor‑shift Vibration Reduction system compensates for camera shake across five axes, providing up to approximately 5 stops of stabilisation with Z‑mount lenses. When using F‑mount lenses via the FTZ adapter, three‑axis stabilisation is available. This is especially helpful for handheld shooting in low light or at slower shutter speeds.
Body Design and Handling
-
3.2" 2.1M‑dot tilting touchscreen LCD for bright, detailed live view and playback, plus touch control of settings and focus.
-
3.6M‑dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 0.8× magnification for clear, comfortable eye‑level composition. NIKKOR optics and a fluorine coating help keep the viewfinder bright and easy to clean.
-
Top‑panel dot‑matrix OLED status display for quick viewing of key camera settings.
-
One CFexpress Type B/XQD slot and one SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS‑II) slot for flexible file storage and backup strategies.
-
Tough magnesium alloy body with dust and weather sealing for reliable use in challenging environments.
-
Deep, comfortable grip and ergonomic layout, including a joystick for fast AF point selection and menu navigation, and an anti‑slip surface for secure handling.
-
Built‑in Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi with SnapBridge support for remote control, image transfer, and firmware updates via a compatible smart device.
NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/4 S Lens
The kit includes the NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/4 S lens, a standard zoom that covers wide‑angle to short‑telephoto focal lengths. The constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains consistent exposure throughout the zoom range and keeps the lens relatively compact and lightweight.
Its optical construction features:
-
One aspherical element and one aspherical extra‑low dispersion element to reduce distortion and various aberrations, improving sharpness and colour accuracy.
-
Nano Crystal Coat to minimise flare and ghosting, enhancing contrast and clarity, especially in backlit scenes.
A stepping motor delivers smooth, quiet autofocus, which is particularly useful for video recording. The lens is designed for both still photographers and videographers who need reliable, high‑quality performance in a flexible focal range.
Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter
The FTZ II mount adapter allows you to use Nikon F‑mount DSLR lenses on Nikon Z‑mount mirrorless bodies. It supports approximately 360 different F‑mount lenses, with full autofocus and auto‑exposure maintained for most AF‑S, AF‑P, and AF‑I type lenses.
The adapter is made from magnesium alloy and is weather‑sealed to match the durability of the camera body. A built‑in 1/4"‑20 tripod mount on the base helps balance the camera when using heavier lenses.
Full AF/AE functionality is supported with:
