Description
The Nikon Z6 II is a fast, versatile full-frame mirrorless camera designed for advanced photo and video work. It builds on the original Z6 with higher speed, more flexibility, and stronger video features, while keeping the same familiar body design and excellent image quality that many creators already rely on.
Performance and Imaging
At the heart of the Z6 II is a 24.5 MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor working together with dual EXPEED 6 image processors. This combination delivers:
-
Increased buffer depth and faster continuous shooting
-
Up to 14 fps with single-point AF
-
Up to 12 fps with other AF modes
-
-
UHD 4K video recording up to 30p
-
Full HD video recording up to 120p for smooth slow motion
The sensor performs well in a wide range of lighting conditions, with a native ISO range from 100 to 51,200 (expandable). A built-in 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction system helps reduce camera shake, allowing sharper handheld photos and steadier video.
The on-sensor 273-point phase-detection autofocus system covers approximately 90% of the frame both vertically and horizontally. It now supports Eye-Detect AF in Wide-Area AF modes and during movie recording, and can focus in low light down to about –4.5 EV.
Body Design and Handling
The Z6 II keeps the same robust, ergonomic body as its predecessor but improves storage and usability:
-
Dual memory card slots:
-
Slot 1: CFexpress Type B / XQD
-
Slot 2: SD/SDHC/SDXC (UHS-II)
This allows overflow, backup, or separation of RAW and JPEG/HEIF files.
-
-
3.6M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder for clear, comfortable eye-level shooting with approx. 0.8× magnification and 100% coverage.
-
3.2" 2.1M-dot tilting touchscreen LCD for bright, detailed live view and playback, supporting easy touch control for settings and focus.
-
Top-panel dot-matrix OLED status display for quick access to key settings.
-
Magnesium alloy body that is dust- and weather-resistant, designed to perform in harsh conditions.
-
Deep, comfortable grip with anti-slip material and a joystick for quick focus-point and menu navigation.
-
Built-in SnapBridge connectivity (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) for wireless file transfer, remote shooting from a smart device, and simplified firmware updates.
Second-Generation Enhancements
Compared to the original Z6, the Z6 II offers:
-
Dual EXPEED 6 processors for higher shooting speed, better buffer performance, and reduced viewfinder blackout.
-
Enhanced AF with Eye and Face Detection for people and animals in Wide-Area AF for both stills and video.
-
Timed long exposures up to 900 seconds (15 minutes) without an external remote.
-
USB Type-C port for in-camera charging and continuous power.
-
Reversible focus-ring rotation direction on compatible lenses.
-
HDR (HLG) support for external recording, producing HDR-ready video files, plus N-Log for footage intended for colour grading.
-
Optional ProRes RAW upgrade to output 12-bit ProRes RAW to compatible Atomos recorders via HDMI.
-
Updated creative features including Multiple Exposure, 20 Picture Control profiles, built-in time-lapse, and Focus Shift shooting for focus stacking.
-
Compatibility with the optional MB-N11 Power Battery Pack for extended shooting time and improved handling.
24.5 MP FX-Format BSI Sensor and Dual Processors
The 24.5 MP FX-format back-illuminated CMOS sensor is designed for:
-
All-round general photography
-
High-quality low-light performance
-
Fast sensor readout for continuous shooting, video and time-lapse
The BSI design helps produce:
-
Clean, low-noise images at high ISO values
-
Smooth, vivid image quality at low ISO values (down to ISO 100)
Dual EXPEED 6 processors provide:
-
Continuous shooting up to 14 fps
-
Up to 124 consecutive frames in a burst
UHD 4K Video Recording and Advanced Functions
The Z6 II is a strong hybrid camera for both stills and video:
-
UHD 4K (3840 × 2160) video up to 30p, with full pixel readout
-
Full HD (1920 × 1080) up to 120p for slow-motion playback
-
Internal recording to memory cards or uncompressed output via HDMI to an external recorder
Advanced video features include:
-
N-Log gamma for flat, high-dynamic-range footage suitable for grading
-

-
10-bit 4:2:2 output over HDMI with compatible external recorders
-
Electronic VR to smooth handheld footage
-
Focus Peaking for manual focusing
