Description

The Panasonic Lumix DC-S1 Mirrorless Camera with 20-60mm Lens is a full-frame mirrorless system designed for both high-quality stills and advanced video production. It pairs a 24.2MP full-frame MOS sensor with the Venus Engine processor to deliver sharp, detailed, and color-accurate images, as well as video recording up to 4K 60p. This combination supports an extended ISO range, fast continuous shooting, and reliable autofocus performance, all within a durable, weather-sealed body.

The camera’s 24.2MP full-frame MOS sensor and Venus Engine work together to provide a sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 51200 (expandable down to ISO 50 and up to ISO 204800). The S1 offers continuous shooting at up to 9 fps and uses Panasonic’s advanced DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) contrast-detection autofocus system, which communicates between sensor and lens at up to 480 fps. This system quickly calculates subject distance and can lock focus in as little as 0.08 seconds, supporting both stills and video shooting, as well as subject tracking. A built-in sensor-shift image stabilization system provides up to 5.5 stops of correction, making handheld shooting sharper and more stable.

For video, the S1 can record UHD 4K 30p with full-pixel readout, 4:2:0 10-bit color, and no recording time limit, and UHD 4K 60p up to 29 minutes 59 seconds. It also supports Full HD video up to 60p. HDR video is available via Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), and a future firmware upgrade can add internal 4:2:2 10-bit recording and V-Log, extending post-production flexibility. Recording to an external device is possible via the full-size HDMI Type A port, and 3.5 mm microphone and headphone jacks support professional audio setups.

The autofocus system includes 225 AF areas and a Low Light AF mode that maintains accurate focusing down to –6 EV. For manual focus users, the camera offers focus peaking (highlighting in-focus edges with color), Touch MF Assist for touch-based focusing, and an AF Point Scope that magnifies the focus area by 3x to 10x for fine focus confirmation. Custom AF zones are available for Multi AF and Custom Multi AF, giving precise control over the focus area.

Physically, the S1 features a 5.76M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 0.78x magnification, 21 mm eye point, and 100% coverage, along with a 3.2" 2.1M-dot tilting touchscreen LCD. The triaxial tilt design allows flexible framing in high, low, and vertical orientations. Live View Boost increases display sensitivity in very low light for easier composition, and Night Mode reduces screen brightness for more comfortable viewing in dark environments.

The camera body is made from magnesium alloy, fully weather-sealed against dust, moisture, and low temperatures. A top status LCD provides quick access to key settings, even when the camera is off. Dual card slots (one XQD and one SD) offer flexible storage options: you can separate RAW and JPEG files, create backup duplicates, or simply extend storage via overflow recording. The SD slot supports UHS-II cards. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity enable remote control and wireless image transfer using compatible devices, via the Lumix Sync app.

The L-Mount lens mount has a 51.6 mm diameter and a 20 mm flange distance, giving access to a wide range of native and third-party lenses. The included DMW-BLJ31 lithium-ion battery is rated for approximately 380–400 shots per charge using the rear monitor, 360–380 shots with the EVF, and around 1100–1150 shots when Power Save LVF mode is enabled.

The camera is bundled with the Panasonic Lumix S 20–60mm f/3.5–5.6 lens, a compact and versatile wide-angle to short-telephoto zoom designed for full-frame L-mount cameras. On APS-C models, this lens provides a 30–90mm equivalent focal length range. Its close focusing ability down to 15 cm and 0.43x magnification delivers near-macro performance. The optical design uses two aspherical elements, one ultra-high refractive index element, and three extra-low dispersion elements to control distortions and aberrations, improving sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy across the zoom range.

A stepping AF motor provides fast, precise, and quiet autofocus suitable for both stills and video, and an AF/MF switch allows quick manual override. A 9-blade diaphragm helps create smooth, attractive bokeh. The lens is splash-, dust-, and freeze-resistant, and the front element has a fluorine coating to repel dirt and oils, making it well-suited to difficult weather and field conditions.
