The Silver Sony Alpha a7C combines the image quality and benefits of a full-frame camera with a compact, travel-friendly body. Using a 24.2MP Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the a7C is designed as a true hybrid, handling both photo and video with ease while remaining small and light enough for everyday use.

The full-frame sensor and BIONZ X image processor deliver up to 15 stops of dynamic range, UHD 4K video recording, and an extended ISO range from 50 to 204800. Continuous shooting up to 10 fps makes it suitable for capturing moving subjects. The sensor also supports a Fast Hybrid AF system with 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection areas for fast, accurate autofocus, including Real-time Eye AF and Tracking AF for better subject detection. A built-in 5-axis in-body image stabilization system compensates for up to 5 stops of camera shake to help keep handheld shots sharper, whether in stills or video.

Compared to other a7-series bodies, the a7C has a noticeably slimmer, rangefinder-style design with an offset viewfinder and clean top plate. The 0.39" OLED electronic viewfinder offers 2.36M-dot resolution, and a 3.0" side-opening vari-angle touchscreen LCD supports flexible high, low, and front-facing shooting angles. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow wireless image transfer, remote control, and location data features when paired with a compatible mobile device.

24.2MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ X processor

The 24.2MP full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor uses a back-illuminated design to improve light gathering, reduce noise, and maintain speed. It works together with the BIONZ X image processor and a high-speed front-end LSI to produce high-resolution stills and video with low noise and excellent detail. The gapless on-chip lens design and anti-reflective coating improve light efficiency and fine detail rendering, while a copper wiring layer increases readout speed.

This system supports:

UHD 4K video recording (XAVC S)

The a7C records UHD 4K internally at up to 30p, using 2.4x oversampling and full pixel readout (without pixel binning) for detailed, clean footage with reduced moiré and aliasing. Full HD 1080p recording is available at frame rates up to 120p. Both UHD 4K and Full HD use the XAVC S codec (H.264) in an MP4 container with 4:2:0 8-bit sampling and bitrates up to 100 Mb/s.

High-speed 120p Full HD recording allows 4x or 5x slow-motion playback when output at 30p or 24p. For higher-quality external recording, the camera provides uncompressed 4K output over HDMI with 4:2:2 8-bit sampling for use with an external recorder.

The a7C also offers extensive image control for video:
