Description

The Sony RX100 VII delivers professional-level tools for both stills and video in a pocket-sized body. It’s designed to satisfy photographers, creators, and vloggers who need fast performance, strong autofocus, flexible video options, and excellent image quality in a camera you can always carry with you.

Powerful zoom and fast performance

Despite its compact size, the RX100 VII includes everything needed to create high-quality images and video. The 24–200 mm zoom lens offers a wide-to-telephoto range in one body, while 0.02-second autofocus, Real-time Tracking, Real-time Eye AF, improved stabilisation, and an external microphone input make it a powerful tool for serious shooting and vlogging.

Wide zoom range in a pocket-sized body

The built-in 24–200 mm lens offers high magnification in a small camera. It is designed to deliver high resolution and clarity across the entire zoom range, giving you strong telephoto reach in a truly portable package and greatly expanding your creative options.

Multiple lenses in one

The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24–200 mm f/2.8–4.5 lens effectively replaces two common zoom lenses (24–70 mm and 70–200 mm equivalents) in a very compact form. This gives you wide-angle, standard, and telephoto framing without changing lenses.

High-quality optics

The lens includes four AA (advanced aspherical) elements and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements. Together, they provide sharp detail from centre to edge and across the zoom range, maintaining image quality even at telephoto settings.

High-speed sensor and processing

New image sensor designed for speed

The RX100 VII uses a newly developed 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the latest BIONZ X image processor. This combination delivers very fast readout and high image quality with good dynamic range and low noise.

20 fps continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking

The fast sensor allows continuous shooting at up to 20 frames per second while maintaining autofocus and auto-exposure tracking. The camera calculates AF/AE up to 60 times per second, so it can follow subjects moving quickly or unpredictably while keeping them properly exposed and in focus.

Blackout-free shooting

Blackout-free shooting lets you follow your subject on the LCD or in the viewfinder without the brief blackouts common in traditional burst shooting. The display refreshes at 60 fps to reduce lag, making it easier to track fast motion.

Single Burst Shooting for split-second action

Single Burst Shooting captures seven images in extremely rapid succession at selectable speeds of 90 fps, 60 fps, or 30 fps. This is ideal for catching precise split-second moments, such as the instant a racket hits a ball. It supports both JPEG and RAW and can be used with the self-timer.

Autofocus and tracking

Wide AF coverage and fast focus

The RX100 VII has 357 phase-detection AF points covering about 68% of the frame, along with 425 contrast-detection AF points. This dense AF coverage allows focus acquisition in approximately 0.02 seconds, among the fastest in its class.

Real-time Tracking

Real-time Tracking uses AI-based subject recognition and considers colour, pattern (brightness), distance (depth), and face/eye information. Once activated, the camera continuously follows your subject across the frame during both stills and video, helping you capture every key moment.

Real-time Eye AF for people

Real-time Eye AF focuses on the subject’s eye and keeps it in focus as they move, making portrait shooting easier and more reliable. You can choose to prioritise the left or right eye, and the camera maintains eye focus while you concentrate on composition.

Real-time Eye AF for animals

Real-time Eye AF also works for many animals, making it easier to capture sharp, expressive portraits of pets and wildlife.

Image quality and stabilisation

High resolution and good low-light performance

The 1.0-type sensor provides approximately 20.1 megapixels with a back-illuminated structure. The standard ISO range is 100–12,800, with support for extended low settings. The sensor and processing deliver high perceived detail, realistic textures, and controlled noise even at higher sensitivities.

Natural colour and texture

Improved image processing algorithms give more accurate and natural colour reproduction. Human skin tones appear pleasing and realistic, and colours in subjects such as flowers and nature are rendered with greater accuracy.

Optical image stabilisation

Built-in optical stabilisation helps counteract camera shake for sharper hand-held photos, even in low light or at longer focal lengths. At 200 mm, the stabilisation effect is equivalent to using a shutter speed about four stops faster, which helps keep images sharp.

Fast electronic shutter

An electronic shutter provides speeds up to 1/32,000 second. The fast sensor readout reduces rolling shutter distortion when photographing moving subjects, and completely silent shooting is available for situations where shutter noise would be distracting.

Creative effects and Soft Skin

Soft Skin Effect can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dullness in portraits for smoother-looking skin. Creative Style and Picture Effect options allow you to fine-tune contrast, colour, and tonality, or apply more stylised looks in-camera.

Advanced video features

4K HDR recording and advanced AF

The RX100 VII records 4K (3840 × 2160) internally with full pixel readout and no pixel binning, oversampling for detailed, high-quality footage. Enhanced AF algorithms provide smooth, stable focusing during video, and Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF (for humans) are both available when recording movies. HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) allows direct HDR playback on compatible displays for greater dynamic range without complex post-processing.

Vlogging and creator-friendly tools

The camera is well suited to vlogging and mobile content creation:

  • Touch Tracking in video lets you tap the screen to select your subject and initiate Real-time Tracking

  • Real-time Eye AF keeps human faces sharp and in focus

  • Active mode image stabilisation helps produce smooth 4K footage even when walking

  • A tilting selfie screen and external microphone input simplify framing and improve audio quality

External microphone input

The body includes a 3.5 mm microphone jack, allowing connection of external microphones for higher-quality sound—important for vloggers, interviews, and professional video work.

Enhanced stabilisation in 4K

Active mode stabilisation improves 4K handheld footage, especially when moving. For even smoother results, you can use Sony’s Imaging Edge Movie Edit add-on app to optimise and stabilise clips further for near gimbal-like smoothness.

Vertical video support

When you shoot video with the camera held vertically, orientation metadata is recorded. This lets compatible phones and computers automatically display the footage upright, making it easier to create content for vertical platforms.

S-Log and Picture Profiles

S-Log2 and S-Log3 are supported for wide dynamic range capture and flexible grading in post-production. Picture Profiles provide additional control over tonal curves, colour, and detail for both creative looks and professional workflows.

Interval shooting and time-lapse

Interval Shooting lets you capture sequences at set intervals from 1 to 60 seconds, with AE tracking. You can preview the resulting time-lapse sequence on the camera and build final time-lapse videos on your computer.

Ease of use and controls

Pop-up electronic viewfinder

The XGA OLED Tru-Finder has about 2.35 million dots, providing a bright, detailed, high-contrast view. It pops up with one action and retracts when not needed, keeping the camera compact.

Tilting LCD for flexible framing

The 3.0" LCD has approximately 921,600 dots and tilts up about 180° and down about 90°. This makes it easy to frame selfies, vlogs, and shots from high or low angles.

Touchscreen operation

Touch functions include:

  • Touch Focus

  • Touch Pad AF

  • Touch Shutter

  • Tap-to-initiate Real-time Tracking

These features make selecting focus points and tracking subjects faster and more intuitive.

Efficient image management

In playback mode, you can rate images or protect them from deletion, and these functions can be assigned to custom keys. Continuous bursts are grouped together for easier browsing, and entire groups can be protected or deleted at once.

Flexible customisation

Functions assigned to the Fn buttons can be set separately for stills and movies. My Menu and My Dial features let you store favourites and frequently used settings for faster access, tailoring the camera to your workflow.
