The Matrix Sled Chimera offers multiple mounting options for the Volt brain:
• Under the top stage junction box using an optional bracket and top stage rods, leaving room for additional accessories
• Directly on the top stage with the included bracket, positioning the Volt brain extremely close to the camera
• Directly on the top stage, as close as possible to the camera, using optional brackets and carbon fiber rods for a secure, isolated connection to your low-mode monitor

For the best possible performance, gimbals are most effective when they are designed to natively integrate the Volt system. To provide the most seamless experience and highest stabilization quality, the Matrix Sled Chimera comes equipped with the M2 gimbal designed by Steadicam.

Dedicated or Shared Power Options
Brushless gimbals are power-hungry, and underpowered motors can produce vibrations or unwanted glitches. Every Matrix sled includes a dedicated power line, greatly reducing vibration issues caused by insufficient power. Whenever possible, SmartSystem recommends using the dedicated C-battery power path.

The Chimera version is designed as a high-end tool for cinema cameras. It combines all the advanced features of the Matrix Sled Extreme with the stabilization technology of the Steadicam Volt system. As with the Extreme sled, heavier cameras can be balanced using the included counterbalance weights.

The backlash-compensated micrometric non-floating top stage provides an exceptionally stable camera mount. The separate-rod LCD monitor holder delivers both high rigidity and flexible positioning. The innovative power system, based on dual V-Lock battery slots plus an additional C-battery slot, allows operation at either +12 V or 24 V. A 1.575" (40 mm) carbon fiber telescopic center post ensures maximum rigidity, with a total sled weight of 5.5 kg (without counterweights).

Arm X1

The Arm X1 is designed, engineered, manufactured, and hand-built in Italy. Every component is CNC-milled in-house from raw stock to final form. Among the various aluminum alloys available, only AL7075 Ergal was chosen for the Arm X1. This alloy offers strength comparable to carbon steel at a fraction of the weight, making it a preferred material in high-performance automotive, aerospace, and robotics applications. As a result, the Arm X1 is one of the slimmest arms on the market while still delivering exceptional load capacity.

Advanced Design and XTune System
The Arm X1 uses a unique arm post system that is both rigid and highly configurable. In engineering terms, the ideal response to external movement is a “critically damped” one. Achieving this depends on both the payload and the spring force used to counterbalance that load. The patented XTune system lets you fine-tune the Arm X1’s response, acting as a selective multiplier of the installed spring force. You can dial it from ultra-smooth to very responsive, depending on your shooting needs.

On fast-paced sets, reconfiguring an arm for a new payload can be time-consuming—especially when the setup changes drastically from shot to shot. By using compression springs and the clever leverage provided by XTune, the springs are safely housed in canisters with plenty of clearance around them. This reduces the risk of snagging clothing, cables, or fingers.

The Arm X1 is based on an industry-standard mating block and is designed with both right- and left-handed operators in mind. It supports front-mount and back-mount vests.

Despite its compact size, the Arm X1 can lift 32 kg (70.4 lb), with a maximum payload of 34 kg (74.9 lb). The maximum boom range is 728 mm (28.5"). With a working payload range from 6 to 34 kg (13.2 to 74.9 lb), it can handle both current and future camera configurations.

Since March 2021, all Arm X1 units include patent-pending DynaSpring technology. This system dynamically adapts the overall spring response throughout the boom range, ensuring extremely smooth operation.

To protect this premium piece of equipment, a custom resin case is included. It meets military specifications such as DEF STAN 81-41, STANAG 4280, ATA300, and IP67, ensuring safe transport on any production.

Vest Lite

Vest Lite is built around a proven ergonomic design and uses high-quality materials throughout. It is engineered for maximum comfort and adaptability.

For female operators, the ability to adjust the thoracic plate on the fly allows the vest to conform more precisely to the body. Each plate can be moved independently to provide the best possible fit. The hip pad and hip support are shaped to offer excellent stability while allowing full freedom of leg movement.

The chest pads can be stacked to increase comfort as needed. The vest is built around an industry-standard mating block made from solid Ergal T7075 aluminum. A ratchet system allows progressive tightening for secure, customized fit. Switching from regular to goofy operation is fast and straightforward.

A black and yellow rear handle gives assistants a secure grip and can also serve as a safety handle in emergency situations. All textile components can be detached and washed, and the 100% cotton lining ensures both strength and durability.

Every structural component of Vest Lite is milled from solid aluminum, then shot-peened and hard-anodized for maximum durability and minimal weight. Extensive testing has been done to optimize both strength and lightness.

Weighing only 2.9 kg (6.4 lb), Vest Lite is likely one of the lightest professional vests on the market. A padded backpack is included for safe and convenient transport.

Hard Case

The included hard case is a trolley based on the Explorer Cases 7745, modified to securely protect a SmartCAM arm (X-Lite or X1) and a SmartCAM sled from the Matrix series.
