This darkfield condenser is designed to enable darkfield microscopy, a technique used to visualize unstained, translucent specimens that absorb little light and are often invisible under standard bright-field illumination.

To use the darkfield condenser correctly, it must be paired with an objective whose numerical aperture is lower than that of the condenser. With a numerical aperture range of 1.26 to 1.30, the condenser is suitable for use with 20× and higher-magnification objectives.

The condenser requires mandatory use of immersion oil between the condenser lens and the microscope slide, regardless of whether dry or immersion objectives are used. Without immersion oil on the condenser lens, the light rays will not enter the specimen, and the darkfield effect cannot be achieved.

The darkfield condenser is installed in place of the standard Abbe condenser. It features two centering screws that allow precise alignment of the opaque stop within the optical path, ensuring optimal contrast and image quality.

For best results and high-contrast darkfield images, it is recommended to use a 0.17 mm thick cover glass and a slide with a thickness of 1.0 to 1.2 mm.
