Description

The MAGUS Lum V500 Fluorescent Inverted Microscope is engineered for observing samples placed in laboratory vessels up to 55 mm high with a bottom thickness of up to 1.2 mm. When the illuminator stand is tilted, the system can also accommodate larger laboratory ware up to 165 mm in height. The microscope supports observation in reflected light using fluorescence techniques, as well as transmitted light for brightfield and phase-contrast microscopy. It is designed for use in fields such as medicine, pharmacology, biochemistry, epidemiology, and related laboratory disciplines.

Optical system and observation head

The microscope features a trinocular head with a trinocular tube and an additional side camera port, allowing a digital camera and monitor (not included) to be connected simultaneously. Beam splitting options on the trinocular head are 100/0 or 50/50, while the microscope body supports 100/0 or 0/100 configurations. The eyepiece tubes rotate through 180°, enabling users to easily adjust eye relief for comfortable viewing.

The revolving nosepiece, located beneath the stage on the stand, offers six objective slots. The supplied configuration includes three phase-contrast objectives and three objectives for fluorescence and brightfield observation. All objectives are infinity plan achromatic with a long working distance, optimized for laboratory vessels with a 1.2 mm bottom thickness.

Illumination and contrast techniques

Reflected-light illumination is provided by a 100 W mercury lamp housed in a dedicated lamphouse that improves heat dissipation and reduces the risk of overheating during extended use. The lamp offers a broad wavelength range with pronounced peaks, making it suitable for a wide variety of fluorescent dyes. Four fluorescence filter sets are included: ultraviolet (UV), violet (V), blue (B), and green (G). The mercury lamp delivers high brightness, clear visibility, and can be replaced easily when required.

Transmitted-light illumination is generated by a 30 W halogen lamp that produces a warm, comfortable light spectrum. This ensures efficient and eye-friendly observation across all objectives. The microscope is equipped with a phase-contrast condenser featuring four positions: one for brightfield and three dedicated to phase-contrast objectives at 10×, 20×, and 40×. Phase rings are centerable, and switching between brightfield and phase contrast is achieved simply by rotating the condenser disk, saving time during routine work.

Both reflected and transmitted light paths support Köhler illumination, ensuring sharp, high-resolution images with uniform brightness and no edge darkening or artifacts.

Stage and focusing system

The microscope has a fixed stage with a precise mechanical system for moving laboratory vessels smoothly and accurately along two perpendicular horizontal axes. Four interchangeable dish holders are included to accommodate vessels of different sizes. Focusing is controlled via coaxial coarse and fine focus knobs positioned on both sides of the microscope body. The coarse focus includes both a tension adjustment and a locking mechanism for stable operation.

Accessories and expandability

Additional accessories available for the MAGUS Lum V500 include alternative eyepieces, digital cameras, and calibration slides, allowing the system to be tailored to specific research or documentation needs.
