Description
The MAGUS Bio 260T microscope is a versatile everyday instrument suitable for laboratory work, scientific research, and education. It is designed to observe thin transparent and translucent specimens using the brightfield method in transmitted light. By adding optional components, the microscope can be expanded to support darkfield, phase contrast, polarized light, and fluorescence techniques.
A key feature of this model is the coded revolving nosepiece, which accommodates up to five objectives. The built-in smart lighting system automatically adjusts illumination when the nosepiece is rotated, matching the brightness to the selected objective. This eliminates the need for constant manual light adjustments, which is especially valuable in teaching environments or when magnification changes frequently.
The microscope is equipped with a trinocular head using an infinity optical system. The eyepiece tubes rotate up to 360°, allowing users to adjust the viewing height to their comfort. A digital camera can be mounted in the trinocular tube, with light distributed between the camera and eyepieces in a 50/50 ratio. The standard kit includes 10×/22 mm eyepieces with diopter adjustment. No tube adjustment is required, and users who wear glasses benefit from rubber eyecups that protect the lenses from scratches and abrasion.
The five-position revolving nosepiece incorporates automatic illumination control. Because objectives of different magnifications transmit light differently, brightness fluctuations normally occur when switching magnification. With intelligent lighting, the brightness level for each objective is set once and then recalled automatically during use. The microscope includes four objectives, with the fifth slot available for an optional objective. The parfocal height is 60 mm. A slot above the nosepiece is provided for mounting an analyzer; when not in use, it is closed with a protective plug.
The mechanical stage uses a belt-driven system, allowing specimens to move smoothly and precisely. There is no X-axis positioning rack, which improves ergonomics and comfort. The specimen holder is secured with two screws and can be removed when needed. A long stage control handle allows operation with hands resting naturally on the table, reducing strain.
The Abbe condenser can be adjusted vertically and centered relative to the optical axis using a dovetail mount. The iris diaphragm is controlled by a ring with a marker, while objective magnification indicators are shown on the condenser body. For optimal contrast, the marker is aligned with the magnification of the active objective. The condenser includes a slot for installing darkfield or phase contrast sliders.
Focusing is performed using coaxial coarse and fine adjustment knobs. Coarse focusing is controlled from the left side, while fine focus knobs are located on both sides of the stand. The right-side fine focus knob features ergonomic finger grooves. A tension adjustment ring allows the user to set the resistance of coarse focusing to a preferred level. All controls are positioned low on the stand, enabling comfortable operation with hands resting on the table.
Illumination is provided by a 3 W LED in the transmitted-light illuminator. The color temperature remains stable when brightness is adjusted. Optional research techniques on this microscope make use of Köhler illumination, which ensures even illumination across the entire field of view and prevents dust, glare, or the image of the light source from appearing in the eyepiece or camera image.
Operating parameters can be viewed and adjusted using the built-in display located at the base of the microscope. The display shows current objective magnification, illumination settings, operating mode, and automatic shutdown time.
The microscope’s functionality can be expanded with optional accessories. Additional eyepieces extend the magnification range. For observing structures not visible in brightfield, users can add phase contrast devices, darkfield sliders, or polarization components. A digital camera enables photo and video documentation or live display on a monitor. Object measurements can be performed using a calibration slide in combination with a scaled eyepiece or camera software.
