Omegon Filters Pro Veil H-Alpha OIII 7nm 2'' (82000)

Artificial lighting from cities and towns brightens the night sky and reduces contrast, making faint celestial objects harder to observe. While streetlights improve visibility on the ground, they create skyglow that obscures delicate deep-sky structures. Emission nebulae differ from star clusters, galaxies and reflection nebulae because they radiate light at very specific wavelengths. Instead of producing a broad spectrum, they emit distinct spectral lines.

Description

Omegon Filters Pro Veil H-Alpha OIII 7 nm 2" (82000)

Artificial lighting from cities and towns brightens the night sky and reduces contrast, making faint celestial objects harder to observe. While streetlights improve visibility on the ground, they create skyglow that obscures delicate deep-sky structures.

Emission nebulae differ from star clusters, galaxies and reflection nebulae because they radiate light at very specific wavelengths. Instead of producing a broad spectrum, they emit distinct spectral lines. The most prominent emission lines include:

  • H-Alpha: 656.3 nm

  • H-Beta: 486.1 nm

  • O-III (495.9 nm and 500.7 nm)

  • S-II (671.7 nm and 673.1 nm)

Due to the limited sensitivity of the human eye in the red spectrum, only the O-III and H-Beta lines are typically visible visually. However, astrophotography cameras can capture all these wavelengths, including the deep red H-Alpha and S-II emissions.

The Omegon Pro Veil nebula filter is designed to suppress artificial light pollution while allowing key nebular emission lines to pass through. With a narrow 7 nm bandwidth, it enhances contrast and reveals faint emission nebulae such as the Veil Nebula (Cirrus Nebula) or the North America Nebula, even from locations outside remote desert or mountain regions.

By selectively transmitting specific wavelengths and blocking unwanted background light, this filter significantly improves the visibility and photographic contrast of emission nebulae.
