ZWO Camera ASI 585 MC-Air Color (86414)

ZWO’s Air technology combines an imaging sensor and a guiding sensor in a compact housing. This means you get a cooled deep-sky camera, an integrated guider, and a built-in astro computer all in one device. The guiding sensor used is the SC2210 CMOS. Due to flange focal distance, stars in the corners of guide images may not appear perfectly round. This is not caused by sensor tilt and does not affect normal operation. An external dual-band antenna supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, ensuring stable and smooth operation within a range of up to 20 meters.

Description

ZWO Camera ASI 585 MC-Air Color (86414)

ZWO’s Air technology combines an imaging sensor and a guiding sensor in a compact housing. This means you get a cooled deep-sky camera, an integrated guider, and a built-in astro computer all in one device.

The guiding sensor used is the SC2210 CMOS. Due to flange focal distance, stars in the corners of guide images may not appear perfectly round. This is not caused by sensor tilt and does not affect normal operation.

Dual-Band Wi-Fi Connectivity

An external dual-band antenna supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, ensuring stable and smooth operation within a range of up to 20 meters. Using the ASIAIR app, you can control the camera and monitor images easily from your smartphone.

Real-Time Stacking and Instant Sharing

During image capture, individual frames are automatically stacked in real time. This process significantly improves the signal-to-noise ratio, allowing the selected celestial object to appear increasingly detailed on your screen. You can adjust brightness, contrast, and other parameters directly in the app. Finished images can be shared instantly with friends or on social media.

Advanced Sony IMX585 Sensor

The camera features a modern Sony IMX585 CMOS sensor with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels and 2.9 µm pixel size. The sensor delivers high resolution, fast frame rates, and completely eliminates amplifier glow. This makes the camera highly versatile and suitable for:

  • Detailed moon and planetary photography

  • Solar imaging (with an appropriate filter)

  • Long-exposure photography of nebulae and galaxies

  • Infrared imaging to reduce atmospheric interference

  • Electronically Assisted Astronomy (EAA)

The sensor is large enough to capture many deep-sky objects without requiring a field corrector in most cases.

High Image Quality and Powerful Cooling

Even raw images are exceptionally clean and smooth, thanks to the absence of amplifier glow. The camera includes regulated Peltier cooling capable of reducing the sensor temperature by up to 35°C below ambient temperature. At an outside temperature of 20°C, the sensor can be cooled down to approximately -15°C, ensuring low-noise imaging even in warm conditions.

Optimized for Moon and Planet Imaging

With small 2.9 µm pixels, very high resolution can be achieved even at f/10 focal ratios, often eliminating the need for additional Barlow lenses.

A clear protective glass window prevents dust from reaching the sensor while allowing UV and infrared light to pass through. With suitable contrast, nebula, IR-pass, or UV/IR blocking filters, you can precisely control which wavelengths reach the sensor.

High Sensitivity and STARVIS 2 Technology

The back-illuminated CMOS design reduces readout noise and enhances sensitivity. Sony’s STARVIS 2 technology in the IMX585 sensor provides excellent performance in low-light conditions. The camera delivers outstanding results not only in visible light but also in the near-infrared range, helping reduce atmospheric seeing effects.

Low readout noise and a high full-well capacity contribute to a wide dynamic range. Combined with the generous sensor size and wide field of view, the ASI 585 MC-Air is suitable for solar, lunar, planetary, and deep-sky imaging, as well as live streaming applications.

ZWO Air cameras are compatible with telescopes designed for APS-C or larger image formats. When used with APS-C image circles, slight distortion may appear in guide stars. For optimal guiding accuracy and stability, telescopes with full-frame or larger image circles are recommended.

All DC 12V/3A ports can function as either input or output, providing flexible power management.
