The flattener, also known as a field flattener, is an essential lens designed to rectify the slight curvature induced by the primary optics, ensuring an even field. This curvature often results in diminished sharpness of stars at the edges of the field of view. By employing the flattener, astrophotographers can capture images where stars retain their sharpness throughout the exposure, providing enhanced visual appeal. Positioned between the telescope and the camera, it effectively corrects this distortion.

On the other hand, the Reducer, aimed at focal length reduction, serves as an optical accessory facilitating a more favorable aperture ratio. This reduction translates to shorter required exposure times, rendering the optics "faster". Moreover, it widens the field of view, enabling the observation or photography of even larger astronomical objects.
