Sky-Watcher BKP 150/750 OTAW Dual Speed tube (SW-1002)

This telescope features a large 150 mm (6-inch) parabolic mirror with a focal length of 750 mm. The included 2-inch Crayford focuser, equipped with a 1.25-inch adapter, ensures compatibility with almost all eyepieces on the market. The focuser also includes a microfocuser for precise adjustments and a T-2 thread, allowing DSLR cameras to be attached with additional adapters.

The optical system is based on a Newtonian reflector design, known for its brightness and suitability for observing nebulae. It also excels in planetary and lunar observations. The 150 mm parabolic mirror, the centerpiece of the telescope, gathers approximately 320 times more light than the human eye, enabling observations of objects with magnitudes up to 12–13. Its optical resolution allows for the separation of stars more than 0.9 arcseconds apart.

Additional eyepieces are recommended to enhance performance: a short focal length eyepiece (5–6 mm) for detailed planetary views and a wide-angle 2-inch eyepiece (25–30 mm) for sky surveys and observing large nebulae.

The telescope is sold without a mount, offering flexibility in pairing with an appropriate setup.

The Crayford focuser is equipped with micro-adjustments (10:1), ensuring precise focusing. It supports both 2-inch and 1.25-inch eyepieces and includes a 28 mm LET eyepiece, making it versatile for various observing needs.

Astronomical observations are comprehensive:

• Lunar surface features larger than 1–2 km are easily visible.
• Solar system observations include sunspots, planetary phases, Mars’ disk, Jupiter’s equatorial bands and Galilean moons, Saturn’s rings and smaller moons, Uranus and Neptune as star-like points, asteroid motion, and bright comets.
• Stellar observations cover approximately 2.7 million stars with magnitudes up to 12–13, double and multiple stars separated by over 0.9 arcseconds, and the distinct colors of the brightest stars.
• Deep-sky objects include almost all Messier catalog entries, hundreds of globular and open clusters, dozens of nebulae with visible details, and numerous galaxies with faint structural features.

For terrestrial observations, this telescope is less ideal due to its optical design. Using an image-erecting lens can correct the inverted view, allowing it to function as a basic terrestrial observation instrument when paired with a suitable mount.
