Description

The Daystar Instruments QUARK represents a breakthrough in solar observation technology, offering the first Hydrogen Alpha "Eyepiece" filter. This innovative All-In-One design integrates high-quality components including a telecentric barlow, adapters, snouts, and a hydrogen alpha filter into a single, streamlined assembly. Through efficient design and optimization, astronomers can now access DayStar's renowned optical quality at a more affordable price point.

The QUARK is available in two variants: "prominence" and "chromosphere," catering to different observational preferences. It performs optimally with refractors ranging from F/4 to F/9, simplifying the setup process. Users can simply insert the QUARK into their diagonal, add an eyepiece, and start observing. Full disk viewing is achievable on refractors with focal lengths up to 450mm.

For telescopes with apertures of 80mm or larger, or during extended solar tracking sessions, it's recommended to use an Energy Rejection Filter to prevent damage. This can be either a UV/IR cut filter placed before the diagonal or a full-aperture red or yellow glass ERF mounted at the front of the telescope.

At the heart of the QUARK is a custom Daystar Instruments 4.2X telecentric barlow lens, specifically optimized in both coatings and optical design for the Hydrogen Alpha wavelength. This specialized lens provides superior field flatness, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

The exact filter bandpass varies depending on the telescope application. QUARK assemblies are designed to show either prominences or surface (chromosphere) details, allowing observers to choose based on their specific observing goals rather than budget constraints.

The QUARK's fully optimized design eliminates the need for additional adapters, combining all necessary components into a single, lightweight device resembling an eyepiece. This compact configuration reduces unnecessary parts, weight, and associated costs. To further enhance performance, baffles have been added to increase contrast, and AR coatings are optimized for the 656nm wavelength.
