Panasonic S5 II X Body (SKU DC-S5M2XE)

The second-generation Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX is built for professional content creators who need high-quality still images, advanced video functions, and reliable livestreaming. It features a newly designed sensor and upgraded L2 image processor, making it the first Lumix camera to use Phase Hybrid AF for fast, accurate autofocus. Using its 24.2MP sensor and improved processor, the camera can record 6K video for up to 30 minutes and offers unlimited 4K video recording. The body is optimized for video work and includes a new Active I.S. system that improves stabilization for handheld and walking shots while filming.

The advanced S5 IIX comes pre-configured with a range of professional video tools. These include HDMI RAW video output, USB-SSD recording, ALL-Intra recording, and ProRes recording. Livestreaming options are built in, with support for Wireless IP streaming, USB tethering to smartphones, and Wired IP streaming. The camera is also the first Lumix model to feature a refined, fully blacked-out, stealth-style exterior.

New Sensor and Processing Engine
The camera uses an updated full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor and an improved image processor with L2 technology. This new sensor integrates a Phase Hybrid AF system, a first for the Lumix series, offering 779 phase-detection points for much better subject tracking. The sensor delivers high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, with a standard ISO range of 100–51,200 that can be expanded to 50–204,800 for use in many different lighting situations.

For action and fast-moving subjects, the S5 IIX can shoot at full resolution up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter. It also includes sensor-shift image stabilization and a High Resolution mode that captures and merges eight separate exposures into a single 96MP raw or JPEG file. When used on a tripod with static subjects, this mode produces highly detailed, color-accurate images at a resolution of 12,000 x 8,000 pixels.

6K and 4K Video Recording
Beyond still photography, the S5 IIX is a powerful video tool. It can record full-frame 6K30p video with 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes, and it supports unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K60p 4:2:2 10-bit modes. For slow-motion work, the camera offers 120p recording options. RAW output over HDMI is available with an optional license.

V-Log is pre-installed, providing a flat, neutral gamma profile with more than 14 stops of dynamic range. This allows for precise control of color and exposure in post-production and smooth integration with footage from VariCam cameras.

Drawing from Panasonic’s broadcast camera technology, Dual Native ISO helps balance low noise and high sensitivity, making it easier to work in a wide range of lighting setups. Each pixel features two separate circuits:

• A Low ISO circuit with base sensitivities of ISO 100 for standard use, ISO 640 for V-Log, ISO 400 for HLG, and ISO 200 for Cinelike D2/V2.

• A Low Noise circuit with base sensitivities of ISO 640 for standard use, ISO 4000 for V-Log, ISO 2500 for HLG, and ISO 1250 for Cinelike D2/V2.

Phase Hybrid AF System
The S5 IIX is the first Lumix mirrorless camera to feature a Phase Hybrid AF system. With 779 phase-detection points, it delivers fast, precise autofocus and high reliability. This system is designed to maintain focus on the intended subject in challenging scenes, such as backlit environments, low light, or when multiple people are in the frame. Whether shooting stills or video, the camera continuously tracks and locks onto subjects that are difficult for conventional AF systems to handle.

Dual I.S. 2 with Active I.S.
For handheld shooting, the S5 IIX uses Dual I.S. 2 stabilization, compensating for about 6.5 stops of camera shake to maximize image sharpness. For video, the newly developed Active I.S. system improves stabilization specifically for walking and moving shots, making handheld video smoother when the camera is in motion.

Body Design and Handling

• The L-mount system, used across the L-Mount Alliance, offers a 51.6mm mount diameter and 20mm flange distance, supporting a wide variety of lenses, including classic and modern anamorphic lenses used for over 60 years.

The Lumix Sync app for iOS and Android enables wireless remote shooting, image transfer, and firmware updates.
